Our Rapid and Rural Logistics (R2L) team is seeking a passionate and motivated Senior Cost Engineer to provide total construction cost engineering and planning for complex and technically challenging buildings including high-rise classification to customer fulfillment and logistics building designs.
The ideal candidate is innovative, organized, analytical, articulate, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable of the global design and construction industry. This individual must have a bias toward automation, including a track record of creating systems, benchmarks, and metrics to achieve cost certainty. Attention to detail, problem solving, and continuous improvement are required skills. The role will work with remote and cross-functional teams, including business leaders, design professionals, finance, and construction teams.

Key job responsibilities
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Provide and maintain baseline construction cost estimates, budgets, and financial analysis for improvement of cost forecasting
- Analyze cost data, historical records, and market trends to ensure accurate and competitive estimates
- Develop order of magnitude (ROM) cost estimates for program initiation and strategic planning for new and established programs
- Create systems, tools, and templates for multiple types of estimates and project types including risk assessment
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including real estate transaction managers, and design program managers, to align cost objectives and project requirements
- Engage in value engineering initiatives to identify cost-saving opportunities
- Prepare and present total cost management performance metrics and discussions at various levels
- Liaise with and manage third-party architects, engineers, and cost estimators as required
- Validate and normalize historical construction cost data for integration into internal costing databases, forecasting, and planning
- Assist with the coordination of workshops that drive alignment on key issues, innovative design, and change management
- Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field OR 5+ years of relevant experience.
- 5+ years of experience in total cost management and estimating with demonstrated experience with sustainable, high-performance industrial buildings.
- Construction management experience including project planning for scope, schedule, and costs.
- Demonstrated experience managing consultants, and vendors.
- Demonstrated expertise in reviewing and analyzing detailed project quantity surveys using Onscreen Takeoff or similar tools, based on architectural and engineering drawings, and technical specifications
- Experience working multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated expertise in software programs for cost management such as RSMeans, Procore, or similar tools.
- Demonstrated excellence in Excel and Smartsheets
- Masters degree Business, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or equivalent
- Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), Professional Engineer (PE) Registration, or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience in total cost management and estimating with demonstrated experience with sustainable, high-performance industrial buildings
- Proven experience implementing and managing a total cost management program including development of systems, tools, and templates
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Recent and documented professional continuing education.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $181,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
