JOB SUMMARY:
Performs technical work in water and/or wastewater treatment and utility equipment maintenance for the Village of Wellington (Village). Position is responsible for performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair duties for treatment plants, well sites, and related utilities structures.
Work is performed under general supervision with moderate latitude. Position relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs skilled troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of various pump mechanical systems and systems processing equipment, e.g., bearings, seals, bushings, impellers, valves, gear systems.

  • Performs diagnostics and electrical troubleshooting tasks in isolating and resolving electronic and electrical control issues; inspects equipment for malfunctions, maintenance needs, breakage, and detection of potential problems and causes of instrument failure.

  • Operates various medium to heavy tools and equipment in performing maintenance and repair tasks, e.g., welders, generators, air compressor, drill presses, band saws, jet machines.

  • Performs fabrication tasks as needed, e.g., welding, drilling, grinding, polishing, fitting, painting, cutting.

  • Performs inspection and testing tasks as part of a regular preventive maintenance program and to ensure safe and proper operating conditions.

  • Assists in the locating and coordination of materials and purchase requisitions for replacement equipment, items, and parts.

  • Maintains detailed and accurate records of all work performed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by four (4) years apprentice level or higher experience in mechanical troubleshooting, moderate electrical system repair, and general maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a Village owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

  • Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) preferred. Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in water and/or wastewater plant operations and maintenance and repair activities

  • Knowledge of machinery, pumps, motors, water purification treatment and pumping processes

  • Skill in the operation of tools and equipment necessary to perform duties

  • Ability to inspect machinery and equipment in water/wastewater plants and determine preventative or corrective maintenance needs

  • Ability to read and interpret basic electrical schematics, blueprints or engineering specifications

  • Ability to multi-task while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities

  • Ability to organize work for timely completion

  • Ability to communicate during emergency situations effectively, promptly, and accurately or to avoid hazards

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds

  • Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Work includes climbing of ladders and work at various heights.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks are regularly performed outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability. Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Must be able to perceive color and depth. Tasks involve prolonged eye use and/or fine visual ability; computer work, reading text, visual inspections, or measurement devices. Must be able to follow visual cues or signals.
