Skilled work at the journeyman level involving both rough and finished electrical work, troubleshooting electrical motor failures and electric circuitry preventative maintenance. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

This position is an Essential classification and will require you to report to duty before, during and after a civil emergency.

  • Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains electrical services in City-owned buildings. Examples of equipment maintained included but not limited to - electrical outlets, lights, motors, relays, alternators, electrical equipment, starters, breakers, VFDs, transformers, etc.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Assists in maintenance operations.
  • Operates vehicles, tools and equipment as duties require.
  • May assist in the calibration and process control equipment utilizing various types of test equipment.
  • May assist Instrumentation Technicians in troubleshooting and repairing PLCs, HMI, and BF Modems.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Graduation from an accepted trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Minimum of two (2) years experience in electrical construction, installation, repairs and maintenance at the Journeyman level required.

A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Possession of valid drivers license and maintenance of clean driving record required with the ability to obtain a valid Florida drivers license within 30 days from date if hire.
  • Possession of a Journeymans Level Electrician License required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, codes and practice of the electrical trade, as well as electric circuitry involving motors, breakers, relays, etc.
  • Tool Proficiency: Skill in the use of various tools, techniques and equipment in the electrical trade.
  • The ability to identify and solve electrical problems effectively.
  • The ability to interpret and understand electrical blueprints.
  • A solid understanding of electrical theory, systems, and components is crucial.
  • Ability to plan, lay out and perform electrical work of average difficulty.
  • Ability to work from blueprints and/or sketches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Attention to Detail: Crucial for ensuring safety and accuracy.
  • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
  • Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
  • Ability to stay centered when challenged.

The employee must frequently lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Steel-toe or composite shoes are mandatory.
