Maintenance Superintendent
This position is responsible for the supervision and coordination of direct work on small to medium-sized projects, under the supervision of a Site or Operations Manager.
Accountable for the safety, quality, and productivity of Austin personnel on site. Serves as Austin's point of contact with the Customer for planning, scheduling, and execution of work. Coordinate, direct, and delegate work assignments to General Foreman and Foreman. This position requires leadership capability including the ability to create a good working relationship with customers, field staff, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors. Responsible for operating in compliance with the prime contract and Austin internal policies and procedures.

Cost and Productivity Management
- Ensure daily time and required reporting are completed timely and accurately
- Execute the weekly maintenance schedule by delegating work to front line supervisors
- Ensure site supervision has the opportunity to review scheduled work prior to execution. Supervise high risk jobs to ensure proper skill sets, safety equipment, PPE, and process are utilized
- Manage the efficient use of Austin equipment, vehicles, and tools
Scheduling
- Maintain manpower levels required to execute schedule Communicate manpower needs or shortages to Austin site leadership and scheduler
- Schedule and coordinate all resources as needed to meet execution requirements
- Participate in schedule reviews prior to the finalization of the upcoming week’s schedule. Provide feedback to the Customer on the work schedule
- Review “Look Ahead” schedules and schedule updates
Quality
- Ensure work is in compliance with all applicable quality requirements
- Ensure timely inspection of work in progress to ensure that work put in place is in accordance with Customer plans and specifications
- Ensure that uniformly high standards of quality are established and maintained throughout the project
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspections and quality reviews, ensuring follow up inspections for all non-compliant work
Relationships
- Provide leadership to the project team to promote safety, quality, teamwork, respect, and efficiency
- Develop and maintain the trust of Customer representatives
- Effective working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Safety and Environmental
- When required, serve as the senior safety representative on site
- Lead their team to achieve the company objectives for safety performance
- Instill and reinforce a culture of safe work practices throughout the project
- Report any safety incidents, near misses, injuries, and quality issues to the Operations Manager, Site, or Regional HSE representative
- Participate in incident investigations and is accountable to execute action items
- Perform safety observations and ensure correction of hazardous conditions
- Assist in development of project specific safety plans
- Ensure all environmental obligations required by contract and regulatory agencies are fulfilled
Other
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- Two- or four-year degrees preferred; will consider equivalent work history in craft, training, supervisory, or other related experience
Experience
- 5 to 7 years of front line or General Foreman supervisory experience in an industrial setting – paper mill experience preferred
Technical Skills
- Ability to communicate Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employee owners
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
- Demonstrate working knowledge of maintenance reliability, plant equipment, planning, scheduling, and work execution
- Understanding of maintenance execution best practices
- Read and interpret project drawings and specifications
- Ability to determine labor and equipment requirements are in line with the needs of the maintenance schedule
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures concerning employment, compensation, HSE, and employee relations
- Contribute to project pursuit efforts and effectively present to groups or in interviews for project competition
