Position Summary:
The Master Welder is a highly skilled technician responsible for executing and supporting all welding operations, including MIG, TIG, and robotic welding. This role involves welding and fabrication, troubleshooting, maintenance, equipment installation and setup, and collaborating closely with engineering to improve manufacturing processes. The Master Welder ensures high-quality welds, supports production needs, and mentors less experienced welders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced MIG, TIG, and robotic welding on a variety of metals and assemblies.
- Set up and calibrate welding machines and robotic welding systems for optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and repair welding and robotic equipment and fixtures, minimizing downtime.
- Support manufacturing engineering by identifying and resolving weld design or process issues.
- Interpret complex blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings with precision.
- Participate in new equipment installation and assist with facility and line setup.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance.
- Maintain welding fixtures, jigs, and tools for efficient and accurate production.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on welding and related manufacturing equipment.
- Train and mentor other welders and production personnel on welding techniques and safety.
- Ensure all welding work meets company quality standards and complies with applicable codes (AWS, ISO, etc.).
- Document welding procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform brazing, welding, and soldering certifications and maintain documentation.
Working Conditions:
- Manufacturing plant environment; exposure to heat, sparks, noise, and fumes.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, bend, and work in confined spaces.
- Must wear appropriate PPE including welding helmet, gloves, and protective clothing.
Qualifications:
- CWI and AWS certification HIGHLY PREFERRED
- Minimum 5-7 years of welding experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Proven expertise in MIG and TIG welding; experience with robotic welding systems required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in maintenance, setup, and fabrication.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting complex welding blueprints and schematics.
- Knowledge of welding codes, safety standards, and quality inspection techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and solve problems independently.
- Comfortable using hand tools, grinders, weld gauges, and measurement instruments.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
