Pima County Development Service Departments Site Group Division is seeking an experienced individual to join our fun and dynamic team as a Public Works Construction Inspector I for private commercial and residential development improvement projects. As the inspector you will inspect the construction of bridges, drainage structures, utility installations, roadway pavements, signing and marking, ADA-accessible structures, parking lots, and general grading.
Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the department's need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
Inspects Public Works construction projects for general compliance with County specifications and design plans;
Coordinates, monitors, and documents details of testing and start-up procedures, and compiles results and certifications to ensure department and state minimum requirements are met prior to acceptance of the construction work;
Works with utility companies to establish suitable locations for utilities within construction constraints, and inspects the installation of utility and drainage pipes;
Ensures project-specific requirements to minimize environmental and public impact during construction are enforced;
Executes confined-space/hot entry procedures and uses safety equipment as needed during the performance of the inspection activities;
Documents all actions and activities during the performance of construction activities and during emergency responses.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience in construction projects such as sewers, water lines, roadways, bridges, and flood control channels.
OR:
Two years of experience with Pima County as a Public Works Engineering Technician, Sewer Line Construction Worker.
OR:
Two years of experience with Pima County as a Utility Locator or Utility Coordinator.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum one (1) year experience in construction inspection, construction of private development projects, or off-site improvements within the public right-of-way.
Experience with standard details and specifications, Subdivision and Development Street Standards, MUTCD, ADOT, or AASHTO standards.
Experience with/knowledge of reading and interpreting construction plans.
Experience in field survey, roadway construction, material testing, or traffic control plans.
Experience with/knowledge of web-based programs such as Accela, Maximo, Adobe, or Microsoft Office.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental Information:
Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at time of application or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period. Failure to obtain/maintain the required certification/licensures shall be grounds for termination.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: Occasionally observes construction details at close range. Frequently required to exchange and obtain accurate information. Frequently moves about the construction site to monitor and inspect the project Occasionally moves tools and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Frequently operates a motor vehicle safely and legally, in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws. Occasionally moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally ascends/descends ladders and other equipment to thoroughly inspect the construction project
Working Conditions: Occasionally exposed to adverse weather conditions. Occasionally required to work in dangerous places like trenches and confined spaces. Occasionally exposed to light to heavy traffic conditions. Occasionally exposed to heavy vehicular construction equipment. Occasionally exposed to walking long distances on Public Streets and rough terrain. Occasionally exposed to loud noise levels.
