Position Information:
The Grounds Equipment Operator is responsible for the operation of specialized medium to heavy power grounds and related equipment including backhoes, ditch trenchers, skip loaders, auto-scrubbers, trailer pressure washers, turf mowers, and dump trucks to perform maintenance and repairs of hard and soft landscaped areas of the campus and related buildings. Performs mowing operations and other turf related tasks, including acetifying, vertical cutting, grading, fertilizing and mowing. Operates equipment to load, unload and haul debris, soil, metals and other materials. Performs preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment. Cleans, prepares, and performs minor asphalt and concrete repairs. Assists in cleaning storm drains, ditches and other drainage systems, and servicing parking lots and related areas. Assists in coordinating landscaping operations with athletics staff, recreation staff, students, faculty and coaches. During times of operational needs, may operate cleaning equipment and assist with event set-up/clean-up; and perform other grounds keeping and refuse duties as assigned. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.
The full salary range for the Grounds Equipment Operator $20.53 - $28.75 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Performs mowing operations by safely utilizing and operating medium to heavy power grounds equipment such as reel tractor mowers, riding rotary and reel mowers, walk-behind rotary or reel units, edgers and string trimmers. Utilizes tractors and 3-pt implements to perform turf related tasks including, but not limited to, aerifying, verticutting, seeding, grading, fertilizing and mowing. Other duties as assigned in order to maintain the turf throughout campus.
Performs cleaning and preparation of hard surfaces such as asphalt, brick, decomposed granite, and concrete. Performs minor asphalt and concrete repairs. Assists with the cleaning and maintenance of storm drains, ditches, and other drainage systems. Supports refuse and recycling operations as needed; may remove trash and other debris, and empty refuse or recycling cans. Operates appropriate equipment, loader, and up to 6 ton trucks to load, unload and haul soil, construction debris, metal, and other materials or debris. Assists with lining and preparing the field(s) for tournaments or recreational play. Other duties as assigned in order to maintain the hardscape, surface, and landscape areas throughout campus.
Coordinates equipment use with other Landscape Services and Facilities Services staff. Coordinates major repairs or maintenance with mechanical staff and other University personnel or departments. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment, including replenishing fluids, greasing, adjusting height of cut, and replacing incidental pieces as needed. Performs other services and minor repairs or adjustments to equipment as needed to maintain functional and regular performance. Conducts and performs inspections on equipment before and after use, but might occur during any time during its use as required.
Performs groundskeeping duties as requested including, but not limited to, trimming, raking, shoveling, trash collection, and event set-up/clean-up. Maintains campus plants, shrubs, trees, hedges, flowers and lawns; trims, prunes and shapes shrubbery, hedges, ground cover, and small trees.
