Position Summary
Perform complex paraprofessional work in support of engineering and or project management activities. This position, under general supervision, is responsible for reviewing permit packages; inspecting construction projects; and providing technical data.
Essential Functions
Review permit packages and applications for completeness, including structure approvals and development projects requiring detailed engineering study
Inspect construction projects to ensure work meets minimum standards, ordinances, and specifications
Communicate information and coordinates processes associated with permit and bond processing; processes applications and fees; coordinates requests with departmental staff and external customers; generates various reports; assures final permitting and construction completion
Assist the public, contractors, and/or other interested parties with a variety of inquiries and requests for information related to engineering services
Provide technical data for construction projects and other compliance data to Engineers, land surveyors, developers, and builders; inspects newly constructed structures assuring compliance of regulations; reviews elevation certificates for compliance with applicable regulations
Assist with special activities and projects, which may include: assembling information for grant applications and notification systems; coordinating and maintaining professional service contracts; developing tracking systems
Participate in meetings related to engineering projects
As applicable, provide front office support, which may include: answering telephones and providing information to callers; periodically staffing service points that require in-person interactions with customers or staff; and/or, performing other related activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the area of assignment
Education: Associate's Degree in Engineering, Construction, Surveying, or Real Estate

Licenses and Certifications
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
Must obtain and maintain a Mecklenburg County Operator's Permit Preferred Qualifications
