The employee in this position will function as an Engineering Technician II in the District 3 Field Office in Williamston, NC . The employee will support higher level technicians and engineers in administering construction contracts via construction inspection and, if needed, stakeout. The employee may serve as lead project inspector on small to intermediate-sized projects as needed. This position requires the performance of standardized and nonstandardized tests of various materials for acceptance in accordance with contract documents and incorporated specifications and requirements. The employee may assist in supervision of lower-level technicians and CEI personnel, as well as help in the coordination of work assignments. The employee must be proficient in record keeping.
The employee must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary and as operations require. Daily duties will include, but are not limited to, writing diaries and reports on project operations, completing various material reports, documenting pay records, performing construction calculations, and computer/iPad entry of reports/data.

- Experience with contract administration
- Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards, and specifications
- Experience in performing inspection, sampling, and testing materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications
- Working knowledge of computer equipment (iPad, desktop), software (HiCams and Share Point), and mathematical functions
- Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports
Additional Expectations:
The employee must apply Department safety program to operations. The employee will be expected to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, weather extremes, and traversing rough/uneven terrain. The employee must be able to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing. The employee will be expected to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment. The employee must have proficiency using computers and electronic tablets in the record keeping of field data. Preferably, the employee is expected to have experience with construction surveying and knowledge of surveying methods and procedures. The employee must be able to perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing. The employee must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. The selected candidate will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Applicants must meet both the minimum requirements and all posted Knowledge, Skills, and Ability requirements to be considered qualified for the position.
