Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Water Pipefitter to join our team. The Water Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of water piping systems, including mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, and related infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of plumbing and mechanical systems, an ability to work from blueprints and specifications, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
ResponsibilitiesInstall, repair, and maintain water distribution systems including pipes, valves, meters, fittings, and hydrants.
Lay out pipe routes and plan piping system layouts according to blueprints and specifications.
Cut, thread, weld, solder, or fuse pipe using hand and power tools.
Inspect work sites for potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Test piping systems for leaks using pressure gauges or similar equipment.
Perform trenching, backfilling, and compaction of soil for pipe installation.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
Coordinate with other trades and contractors to ensure timely project completion.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and hours worked.
Operate heavy equipment (such as backhoes or trenchers), if qualified and required.
Adhere to all applicable codes, regulations, and safety procedures.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or equivalent on-the-job training.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a pipefitter, plumber, or in a related trade.
Working knowledge of water distribution systems and related components.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy materials and work in various weather conditions.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to work overtime, on-call, and respond to emergency repairs as needed.
Certification as a Journeyman Pipefitter or Plumber.
OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
Experience with municipal water systems or public utilities.
Experience operating excavation equipment.
Familiarity with trench safety, confined space entry, and utility location practices.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
