Concrete Finisher
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent under the guidance of the Streets Supervisor builds and sets up concrete forms to pour, lay and finish concrete. The incumbent also occasionally operates construction and maintenance equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned: Note: All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
Finish concrete;
Direct the work of one (1) to three (3) laborers;
Assist in setting concrete forms;
Drive truck as necessary;
Operate concrete saw and jackhammer;
Clean and maintain tools and equipment used on the job site;
Lay and shovel asphalt as required;
Regular attendance and timeliness is required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- A valid driver's license is required. A Class "B" CDL is preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year experience working with concrete, and operating construction equipment is preferred.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The incumbent should possess knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in the department. Problem solving, speed and accuracy are required to perform the duties of this position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear. Occasionally sit, use hands to handle objects and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent must also stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is also required to use the sense of smell on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, distance and peripheral vision. Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also required.
The employee is occasionally required to lift more than 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and is required to work near moving mechanical parts. The incumbent is also exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals as well as hot-weather related extreme heat. The incumbent is also at risk of electrical shock and vibration. The incumbent is also required to work in high, precarious places.
The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
