Job Summary

Seeking a Civil Engineer with experience in power generation and industrial projects. Responsible for interpreting contract documents, developing conceptual and detailed designs, and preparing cost estimates. Must have proficiency in civil engineering techniques, software, and drafting tools, with hands-on experience in earthwork, site surfacing, and drainage. Ideal candidates can manage multiple projects, collaborate effectively across departments, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.

Job Description

  • Reviewing, analyzing and interpreting Contract Documents (RFP, specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop conceptual design plans and detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for a variety of power generation and industrial projects across the United States.
  • Independently evaluate, select and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to a variety of site development projects.
  • Develop conceptual civil designs that may include analysis, calculations, research, selection, layout, etc. necessary to develop required design documents.
  • Coordinate estimate efforts with project personnel in all disciplines and departments ranging in moderate to large or complex projects.
  • Collaborate with and manage entry- and mid-level employees for skills development; review work progress and results and provide direction as needed.
  • Utilize basic civil engineering software packages and computer-aided drafting software in accordance with industry codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with various discipline and subsidiary groups to provide expertise and support project needs.
  • Ability to understand civil construction methods and be able to clearly communicate the means and methods used to price an estimate.
  • Ability to make assumptions based on experience when detailed plans are not provided, and front-end estimating is performed based on conceptual level designs.
  • Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, site surfacing, underground piping and drainage.
  • Identifying bid qualifications, risks, and assumptions along with quantities and pricing ensuring estimates and proposals are performed in accordance with company practices and standards.
  • Participate in estimate reviews and presentations to department heads, estimate managers and executive management.
  • Manage comparisons between self-perform estimates and subcontractor quotes.
  • Can provide guidance to less experienced engineers and/or those without previous estimating experience
  • Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems. Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines or internal customers for clarity on work.
  • Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives
  • Follows through on commitments made to internal and external customers and meets all required deadlines
  • Serves as project/discipline point of contact for external and internal customers
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines.

Skills Required

  • Hands-on FEED and EPC execution
  • Experience leading a group of engineers and designers and ability to check their work to ensure high quality deliverables is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in civil engineering and design including site preparation, drainage analysis, stormwater and sanitary sewer design, rough grading, and finish grading experience.
  • Software experience with Civil 3D, and HydroCAD or Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA) is required.
  • AutoCAD proficiency a plus.

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Licensed Professional Engineer with NCEES record preferable
