We are seeking an Electrical Engineer 2 who will design, develop, test, and support a wide range of advanced electronic systems, including lasers, LiDAR, and electro-optic sensors. A key focus of the role is the development of embedded software to control and interface with complex hardware systems. Technologies involved include power electronics, communication systems, integrated circuits, analog and digital electronics, embedded processors, FPGAs, and general-purpose test equipment. This position is based in our Niwot , CO office . This is an exempt, non-supervisory, full-time position.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, test, and deliver advanced laser and electro-optic systems
  • Develop, maintain, and manage configuration of embedded software to support complex hardware platforms
  • Provide engineering support for both new development efforts and legacy electro-optic systems
  • Perform hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and integration of circuit cards and electronic subsystems
  • Design and implement test equipment, processes, and methods to enable efficient production of electro-optic systems
  • Lead the design of electronic circuit cards and system-level electronics, including schematic capture, component selection, layout coordination, and procurement
  • Coordinate with vendors for fabrication, assembly, and testing of printed circuit boards and electronic modules

Experience and Background We Look For:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related field, with 2+ years of relevant experience
    • Equivalent experience in production engineering may be considered in lieu of formal education
  • Strong understanding of electronic circuit theory, including practical experience with processors, op-amps, voltage regulators, transistors, and passive components
  • Hands-on experience developing embedded firmware for microcontrollers, particularly STM32 platforms
  • Familiarity with production environments and process control tools such as ECNs, version control systems (e.g., Git/Bitbucket), and related workflows
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Proven capability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to professionally document designs, procedures, and test results
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to a dynamic, growing company with diverse products in various stages of development and production
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a security clearance

Nice to Have:

  • Proficiency with Altium Designer for printed circuit board (PCB) design
  • Experience with FPGAs and microprocessors, including both firmware development and associated electrical design
  • Hands-on experience with the manufacturing of complex electronic circuit card assemblies and integrated mechanical systems
  • Active U.S. security clearance

The salary range for this role is $95,000 to $110,000; however, Arete considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to: the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
