Work Schedule:
- Wednesday 12:00pm - 6:00pm; Thursday 6:00am - 6:00pm; Friday 6:00am - 6:00pm; Saturday 6:00am - 6:00pm.
- Holiday work required if falls during scheduled hours.
Purpose/Scope:
The purpose of Refrigeration Technician is to maintain, diagnose, repair, rebuild, adjust, perform preventive maintenance, and install equipment within and around the facility so as to keep the production operational and have zero loss of production. This individual will perform the duties of a Refrigeration Technician and assist other maintenance personnel on his/her shift and will be responsible for all necessary paperwork and documentation as they relate to the job.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Make rounds and keep logs of daily operations and events for engine rooms and refrigeration equipment.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of ammonia refrigeration compressors, condensers, pumps, vessels, recirculatory equipment, purging equipment, evaporators / RMAUs, heat exchangers, and control valves & isolation valves while using the Original Equipment Manufacturers guidelines.
- Perform Line & Equipment Opening procedures.
- Adhere to all safety requirements including PPE usage, preventing and reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lock out-Tag out procedures and Process Safety Management related items.
- Operate/monitor the ammonia refrigeration system and monitoring device and Process Safety Management documentation, work order/inventory control.
- Dismantle malfunctioning systems and test components. Adjust or replace worn or defective mechanisms and parts, and re-assemble repaired systems.
- Test lines, components and connections for leaks.
- Demonstrate strong safety leadership skills and follow safe work practices
- Work as part of a team to plan and conduct equipment repairs
- Conduct routine audits and equipment inspections
- Demonstrate troubleshooting abilities
- Maintain open and professional line of communication with operations
- Respond to unplanned/emergency work requests in a timely & effective manner
- Follow food safety and good manufacturing practices
- Complete PSM Records, communicate issues with equipment to management when necessary
- Work with direct involvement with Process Safety Management and Hazmat.
- Troubleshoot, repair, install and maintain site ammonia refrigeration systems
- Troubleshoot, repair AC/DC motors, and drives, electrical systems up to 480V 3-phase, proxy sensors, and limit switches
- Day to day maintenance and repair to equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems on production equipment
- Maintaining a safe plant, meeting all federal, state, and local environment requirements
- work orders and fill out the daily documentation-
- Keep designated refrigeration equipment in running condition to minimize down time.
- Run, maintain, troubleshoot, and diagnose industrial refrigeration equipment.
- Maintain proper operation of all equipment in the facility.
- Assist with mechanical duties as needed.
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently with or without direct supervision.
- Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly checks are completed.
- Ensure responsible area is neat, clean, and safe for operations.
- Use required PPE and follow all safety guidelines of the Company.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & knowledge for the effective performance of essential job functions:
- High school diploma/GED.
- Completion of formal trades training program.
- 3 years prior maintenance or refrigeration experience.
- Electrical experience and troubleshooting in low and high voltage circuits, motors, and controls.
- Skills and knowledge in Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Welding, Mechanical, Electrical Electronics, or Refrigeration
- Excellent math skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

Ongoing Requirements:
- Pass a physical, pulmonary test, respirator fit test (Must be able to wear a Level A chemical suit and SCBA Full Face mask) annually
- Must become a HAZ-MAT member and pass the required level for HAZ-MAT
- Must have ability to become and maintain forklift certification
Physical Requirements:
- Combination of Sit, Stand, and Walk. with needed ability to work on feet for periods up to 12 hours.
- Workable use of both arms and hands and able to grasp.
- Good eye sight (with or without corrective lens).
- Able to perform repetitive task.
- Able to reach, bend, climb, push, pull, and stoop.
- Able to climb and work on ladders.
- Ability to work on variety of hand and power tools, shop machines, and tools.
- Able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
Environmental Conditions:
- Environment is from dirty to clean, dry to wet and slippery, hot to cold depending on area of required duties on plant floor and outer areas as needed.
- Sound levels on plant floor are moderate to loud depending on area of required duties on plant floor and outer areas as needed.
- Moving mechanical parts, and vibrating parts and tools are part of the daily activity.
- Some exposure to fumes or airborne particles and chemicals.
Work Demands:
- This is a full-time hourly position; all applicants should be willing to work all shifts (days/ evenings/ overnights), extended hours and weekends.
- Able to work 12 hour shifts for 6 to 7-day periods and weekends if needed.
