THIS IS AN FULL-TIME, ON-SITE POSITION LOCATED IN SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
SUMMARY
The Mechanical System Engineer III role is a senior level position in the Engineering department. Under general supervision, this position performs engineering duties in the design or alteration of machines, sections, systems, units, or parts with consideration of manufacturing feasibility, cost, and operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.)
- Develop engineering models and/or drawings (using Company standards and tools) including Bills of Materials (BOM) in a clear, complete, accurate manner compliant with appropriate Company standards.
- Process engineering releases, change orders, change requests.
- Specification preparation, concept evaluation, project estimates, component evaluations, stress analysis, machine design, reliability testing and cost reduction.
- Perform and document risk assessments.
- Interface with Manufacturing to develop fabrication/assembly cost estimates on machines.
- Develop test plans to validate equipment and/or component design. Perform tests, analyze results, and prepare test reports.
- Provide production shop support as required. Tasks may include fit-up of components to verify/resolve interference issues or other engineering-related tasks.
- Perform machine quality inspections prior to machine shipments. Generate documentation as needed to support quality compliance programs.
- Assist with machine installation, commissioning, field troubleshooting, and customer training as required.
- Be familiar with all safety and best-practice codes/guidelines (OSHA, CE, NFPA, etc.)
- Completes normal and required administrative tasks (time sheets, logs, etc.)
- Performs all commitments/tasks in a timely and professional manner.
- Performs other duties/responsibilities as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mechanical System Engineer III position has no direct reports and is not directly responsible for managing others, but may be asked to lead small, temporary teams that may include Engineers, Engineering Aides or Technicians. The position is a senior role that is expected to guide others by example.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- BSME/BSMET
- PE (Mechanical) preferred
- Project Management experience, Certificate a plus

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- 4-6 years experience in a related field.
- General knowledge of mechanical and control components and application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in completing a sequence of related Engineering tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Exposure and a general understanding of the following software packages is required:
- 2-D CAD (AutoCAD or equivalent)
- 3-D CAD (SolidWorks)
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.)
- Ability to read, understand and implement electronic and paper based pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.
- Possesses effective communication skills, a positive get-it-done attitude, and the ability to work as part of a team in a demanding production environment.

Under direct supervision, the Project Engineer acts as a liaison between the Sales Support Engineer, Regional Sales Manager and internal departments through documentation and project planning.
Provides technical support and ownership regarding projects being built and planning to be built. Develops processes that further improve the departments efficiency and documentation standards. Creates detailed drawings of project intended to be built and shipped to the customer.
Best fit for this position is someone who likes people, is a proactive communicator and a problem solver. The preferred candidate is organized, and detail oriented with the desire to develop the details needed to release a project accurately for production across multiple departments.
Please note: Spanish and/or Portuguese fluency is highly preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Acts as technical liaison between AMSI and the customer. Validates estimates of machine, system run speed(s) and setup times for customer supplied box samples or drawings.
- Develops and releases Projects for Configurator release.
- Performs Quality Control, Quality Assurance activities for pre-release projects such as Pre-Release report, Pre-Fab report, Floor Plan reviews, or other in-process checks.
- Gathers and organizes information from Customers, documents, etc. for Custom Engineering or Retrofit Project releases.
- Processes Change Orders.
- Develops finalized floor plans from a preliminary plan using AutoCAD.
- Assists in sustaining software tools, performs Dynamic Block, Layer, and *.DWG file maintenance.
- Assists in designing and estimating conveyor layouts and control packages for proper product flow based on information provided by the Sales Support Engineer. Coordinates these layouts with Engineering Department to ensure consistent standard design packages.
- Conducts Machine Acceptance Buy-off check on the factory floor with Production, Engineering and Field Service staff.
- Communicates shipping and logistics info to stakeholders.
- Creates preinstall packs.
- Responsible for project information completeness and continued updates across the projects lifecycle.
- Attends pre-install meetings and installations along with senior a Project Engineer.
- Catalogs warranty and customer satisfaction metrics to aid in continuous improvement programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- AAS in Engineering or Technology, Preferred BS/BA in Engineering
- Project Management experience, Certificate a plus
- Spanish and/or Portuguese fluency highly preferred

- 1-3 years sales experience
- Willingness to travel 15% of time
- Background in Mechanical systems

Compensation: $80,000-$95,000 annual (DOE)
