Reporting to the Director of Facilities Management, the Senior Building Controls Specialist (performs a variety of duties associated with the operation, maintenance, installation and alteration of automation systems controls and instrumentation, including working with contractors, implementing software programs, and reading and revising engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.Job Description:
Installs, maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, inspects, tests and repairs electronic, electro-mechanical, pneumatic instrumentation such as differential temperature and pressure transmitters, and analog to digital computing interface devices used to monitor and to control related systems, and all instrumentation, controls, monitoring equipment and devices supporting central utilities and the entire campus.
Consults with engineers and supervisors to determine overall objectives desired with responsibility for visualizing, suggesting, and working out a solution to design, and operation problems; and assists engineers and supervisors in design, re-design and check-out of instrumentation and controls for special applications and projects.
Repairs and calibration instruments; and controls and tests equipment that can be determined functionally deficient during operational problems.
Inspects, tests, and troubleshoots problems involving analog and digital electronic systems, lighting, signal communication, electrical appliances switches and electrical equipment.
Installs necessary connections for new equipment and, if necessary, new circuitry.
Checks and services environmental controls systems including electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic temperature controls.
Works from computerized preventive maintenance work orders related to automation systems.
Programmes new controller/commissioning.
Works according to established safety and working standards and codes to improve the environment and to help prevent waste or damage of materials.
Assists others in reading and revising engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
Writes and implements automation systems software programs for optimal start-stop times of equipment, load shedding schedules, security schedules, and analog alarm limit parameters.
Works with contractors during the installation and warranty operation and maintenance of automation systems.
Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma and/or GED.
A minimum of seven years of experience with electronic and pneumatic instrumentation controls or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST).
Experience working in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair technical systems.
Strong understanding of test equipment such as voltmeters, meggers, OHM meters, capacitor testers, oscilloscopes, digital logic problems, electronic and pneumatic calibrators, and more complex test equipment.
Strong knowledge of computer software and control system applications used in facilities (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Metasys, FX80, etc.).
Strong ability to write and follow written and oral instructions.
Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.
Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Additional Position Details:
The incumbent must have a valid drivers license.
The incumbent must be able to work from heights and to lift objects to 50 lbs.
The incumbent must be reached by phone for emergency call-in work.
If the incumbent has no knowledge of American Sign Language, the incumbent is expected to achieve an ASLPI score of 1 plus within two years of employment. If the incumbent is hired with some knowledge of American Sign Language, the incumbent is expected to achieve an ASLPI score of 2 within two years of employment. The supervisor must ensure that the incumbent receives the necessary support to meet this goal.
