Utility Operator- Open Immediately City of Miami Texas Full time position Hourly Wage Job Description Performs proper maintenance and operation of the City's water and wastewater system. Regularly interacts with customers and citizens to address concerns with water quality, water usage, and meter accuracy. 1. Is honest, self driven, and conscientious member of the team and community of Miami. 2. Obtains water samples for testing and all other aspects of TCEQ regulations and requirements.. 3. Works throughout the distribution system ensuring water quality and sufficient quantity. 4. Works independently and as part of a team to maintain the City's water and wastewater infrastructure such as mains, fire hydrants, valves, meters, taps and manholes. 5. Installs water meters for new customers, changes out faulty meters, tests meters for accuracy and flow quantity. 6. Removes sewer blockages or repairs sewer lines using a jet machine, digging up a joint and replacing, etc 7. Keeps detailed records of work performed. 8. Responsible for daily work orders and maintains honest, accurate and detailed work records; plans daily activities regarding setting, replacing and testing meters, as well as solving questions. 9. Repairs and replaces broken or leaking water mains requiring locating the problem/leak, getting to the source by using hand tools, backhoes, etc. and replacement or repair of the problem. 10. Operating City vehicle according to all state law while maintaining vehicle in a clean and working order. 11. Operates specialized line inspection and installation devices and equipment. 12. Relocates and installs water and sewer taps, meters, valves, pipe sections, etc 13. This position requires strenuous physical exertion and applicants must be able to carry a minimum of 100 pounds. 14. Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of equipment. 15. Responsible for locating barricades to ensure safe traffic management in and around work sites and adequate excavation shoring to ensure worker safety during operations. 16. Will be required to perform accurate recording of commercial and residential meters. 17. Will be assigned utility line locating utilizing utility maps, plan drawings and locating equipment. 18. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position. 19. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position. 20. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, council and others in the course of daily work. 21. Uses good judgement to work safely, using equipment properly. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Operating knowledge of various equipment such as front-end loader/backhoe, jet machine, sewer line camera system, pipe cutters, portable pumps and hand tools, office equipment. Must be proficient in backhoe operations. Physical ability and endurance to perform assigned tasks and manual capability to operate hand and power tools necessary to job function. Must have the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions Must have the ability to complete tasks as assigned in a timely manner. Ability to work in a team environment, contribute as a team member and treat co-workers and customers with respect. Ability to work any day of the week (weekends and weekdays) and long hours. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Requires high school diploma or equivalent plus two years of progressively responsible experience in a closely related field.

Requires a Class C Water Distribution or Class C Surface Water or Class II Wastewater Collection license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). If not in possession of the required license, then must obtain the license within 12 months of hire date or promotion.

Position provides vital public service to the citizens of Miami, Texas, therefore all utility employees are subject to call out in the event of an emergency situation. This can include before, during, and immediately after a natural or manmade disaster, terrorism, pandemic, and equipment or system failure. As the utilities are continuous in operation. An emergency call out can occur at any time night or day on any day of the year and can require employees to stay on the job for extended periods of time.
