What You Will Do**

The Dynamic Structure, Design, & Engineering (J-2) Group within Integrated Weapons Experiments (J) Division is seeking a Mechanical Designer/Drafter 5. The Mechanical Designer/Drafter 5 will be responsible for supporting the engineering team's design of R&D structures and hardware. This will entail working closely with the test and design engineers to provide detailed drawing sets for test configurations, fabrication of hardware, and future structure designs for R&D purposes. The candidate will work within multiple programs and must possess the organizational skills to adapt to evolving R&D design requirements. The Mechanical Designer/Drafter 5 will use computer-aided design (CAD) programs to produce designs, drawings, and layouts of unique components and systems, both unclassified and classified, and will apply sound engineering design principles to design components and assemblies.

**What You Need**

**Minimum Job Requirements:**

+ Demonstrated expert proficiency with Creo, Pro Engineer or other 3D CAD to produce complex mechanical assembly models, drawings, and layouts of components or systems.

+ Experience utilizing configuration management systems such as Windchill software, PDM link or other Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

+ Demonstrated experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5 engineering drawing standard, application of symbols and notes to ensure models capture design intent.

+ Demonstrating knowledge of resolving manufacturing issues with fabricators and understanding of consensus code applications such as ASME, ANSI, and AWI for addressing fit, form and function.

+ Expert knowledge and experience working within the framework of established conduct of engineering practices.

+ Expert knowledge of and demonstrated experience producing formal, high-quality engineering layouts and drawings of complex systems and components with little or no supervision.

+ Familiarity with document control and records requirements in a highly regulated environment.

**Education/Experience** : Position requires an Associate's Degree in an Engineering or Technical field and 7 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

**Desired Qualifications:**

+ Knowledge of, and experience with, design definition in the Nuclear Weapons Complex

+ Advanced knowledge of pressure vessel designs

+ Knowledge of, and experience, performing drawing checks

**Work Location:** The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

**Position commitment:** Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. **Additional Details**

**Directive 206.2** - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 ( . **Clearance:** **Q** Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 ( for additional information.

**New-Employment Drug Test:** The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

**Regular position:** Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
