Job Title: Concert Operations Manager

Summary:
The Concert Operations Manager provides essential support to the Director of Concert Operations, managing assigned concert operations activities, project budgeting, and assigned logistics for touring and runouts. The Concert Operations Manager is responsible for executing assigned tasks surrounding Houston Symphony live performances and livestreams at the highest level. The Concert Operations Manager stewards positive relationships with venues and vendors that support concert operations activity and contributes to a culture of collaboration and support within the artistic operations department and the entire organization.
Objective: Produce high-level Houston Symphony live performances in and outside of Houston
Plan and administer assigned concert operations activities of the orchestra, including equipment rental, staging requirements, and other logistical arrangements. Participate in orchestra set-up planning for rehearsals and concerts, issue any assigned production required reports and documents to crew and staff.
Advance technical needs for assigned concerts with tour managers and fulfill the terms of the contracts.
Work closely with Stage Manager and stage crew to execute high-quality productions. Learn and understand IATSE contract, ensuring that the Society adheres to all IATSE contractual guidelines in production
Assist in the organization and production of all orchestra tours and runouts, including creating and distributing itineraries for tours and run outs, arranging for orchestra transportation, escorting the orchestra, etc.
Objective: Steward positive relationships with venues and vendors that support concert operations activity
Coordinate and supervise all BOH facility and equipment rental. In consultation with Director of Concert Operations, draft and submit monthly Jones Hall rental contracts.
Prepare and finalize assigned crew payrolls per IATSE contract guidelines
Manage Jones Hall rehearsal room schedule, including supervision and assistances with setup as needed.
Assist with musician practice requests. With Concert Operations and Artistic departments, coordinate guest artist rehearsal needs.
Manage rental inquiries for Houston Symphony equipment and instruments.
Work closely with Foundation for Jones Hall staff on all backstage operations
Maintain relationships with experts and colleagues in the orchestra operations industry, actively monitor trends with a curiosity and willingness to learn about and/or suggest new ways to improve systems, where appropriate
Objective: Contribute to a culture of collaboration, support, and best practices within the artistic operations department and the entire organization
Prepare and monitor budgets for projects as assigned.
Serve in back-of-house concert duty rotation
Continue to learn and have curiosity
Maintain a friendly and positive environment in all interactions with all musicians, chorus members, crew, staff, artists, and guest production personnel
Perform additional duties as required by the Houston Symphony Society
Bachelors degree or comparable education and experience and/or training
Minimum 3 years of professional experience
Knowledge of classical music required
Has a clear sense of artistic judgement, professionalism, and discretion
Full proficiency in conductors score reading
Creativity and flexibility are a must
Skilled at project management and task prioritization and completion in a fast-paced environment handling multiple assignments simultaneously
Attention to detail a must
Ability to confidently and diplomatically interact with conductors and production teams to maintain quality of production and represent the Houston Symphony and its projects in the best possible manner
Team-oriented with the ability to also work independently
Ability to work evenings and weekends, including some holidays
