The Assistant Superintendent will report to the General Superintendent and work closely with and support the operations team and interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position is located in Leonard, Texas.

Job Title: Assistant Pipe Superintendent

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Hiring for an Assistant Superintendent to assist Project Superintendent in the planning and execution of Heavy Civil Construction work. The Assistant Superintendent will coordinate and supervise the labor and equipment resources while promoting safety and production goals. This supervisory position oversees and is ultimately accountable for effectively coordinating the delivery of all labor staffing needs, means and methods guidance, and equipment requests for field construction projects. In addition, this position is responsible for overall guidance and oversight of construction quality control. The Assistant Superintendent will continually work with Project Managers and Field Superintendents to determine initial & ongoing labor staffing needs.

  • Schedule and supervise work of subcontractor as delegated by the Superintendent.
  • Monitor the pace and quality of work.
  • Act as the initial field contact for means and methods assistance, and coordinate/request assistance from Superintendent – Equipment, Means & Methods.
  • Collaborate with General Superintendent, Equipment, Means and Methods, or other Equipment Division managers to ensure proper coordination & arrival of equipment to sites.
  • Proficient with establishing priorities and have strong time management skills.
  • Identify and report critical issues and problems to the PM promptly and provide potential resolves.
  • Through the Operations Team, coordinate with the Corporate Safety Department to ensure all project safety needs are met and assist in adherence to all Company safety policies.
  • Perform QC inspections to ensure quality artistry and that work is consistent with contracts and project documents.
  • Identify and complete self-performed work when required by the Superintendent’s demands.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • At least 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in civil construction, including estimating, project management, equipment, scheduling, cost control and personnel administration.
  • Experience working with 42 inch pipe.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and statistical data, interpret construction drawings, architectural drawings and specifications, and legal documents.
  • Prior experience effectively leading construction operations.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Advanced knowledge of the heavy civil construction industry.
  • Self-starter capable of improving operations processes.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead crews and teams in meeting production goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Sound judgment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone.
