The Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor is responsible for championing all aspects of health and safety initiatives for the Weld-On Hartsville manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for developing, planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining all aspects of health and safety programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. The position will be point of contact for OSHA/TOSHA compliance and Workers Compensation issues. He/she will review, evaluate, and analyze the work environment and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injuries. This position drives the EHS culture and supports the operations by successfully supporting organizational health and safety initiatives. Weld-On Adhesives, Inc., a subsidiary of IPS Corporation, is the pioneer and leading manufacturer of solvent cements, primers and cleaners for PVC, CPVC, ABS and other plastic piping systems. Weld-On products are globally recognized as premium products for joining plastic pipes and fittings. WELD-ON products meet the requirements for Low VOC (volatile organic compound) emission limits established by the Division of Air Pollution Control of the State of Tennessee. About the Role: The EH&S Supervisor will develop and implement Environmental Health & Safety programs, procedures, associated training, and guidance documents for the State of Tennessee. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, healthy, and safety regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility for workplace safety and health planning meetings
  • Support achievement and implementation of OSHA/TOSHA and other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Maintain all safety and training related documentation for internal or OSHA/TOSHA inspection
  • Lead incident/injury investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Educate and train project team members in safety requirements, best practices in incident preventions.
  • Serve as point person for all health and safety audits and follow-up on completion of any tasks identified through those audits
  • Coordinate, review, and monitor non-routine work activities that have the potential to adversely impact operations, the environment, or health & safety.
  • Develops project plans and timelines based on strategic EHS goals and objectives.
  • Partner with departments to recognize hazards and prevent injuries.
  • Conduct training including but not limited to new hire orientation, compliance, forklift, scissor lift, LOTO, Machine guarding, chemical hygiene, etc.
  • Administer EH&S programs driving participation, data entry, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Maintain required records for safety training, safety inspections, and other EHS tasks.
  • Answer questions and assist associates, supervisors, and contractors on EHS related matters.
  • Manage safety shoe and prescriptive eyewear programs.
  • Assist with preparation of hazardous waste shipment.
  • Disposal of hazardous waste in appropriate waste container and transport to central accumulation area.
  • Ensure the results of safety inspections are documented; monitor the investigation of accidents and injuries; ensure corrective actions are taken and provide recommendations for ways to prevent similar accidents
  • Responsible for Environmental Title V Air Permit, aboveground solvent storage tanks
  • Responsible for storm water permit program
  • Ensure SDS are on hand for all raw materials used on premises and that employees are trained in the proper use and handling of these chemicals.
  • Ensure the timely, proper and efficient handling of workers compensation, general and environmental liability claims and any related litigation.
  • Ensure the availability of, training in, and use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Hazwoper, RCRA, DOT CFR49, IMDG, Forklift. Emergency Response. LOTO, HazCom.
  • Keep and manage all regulatory logs and ensure timely reporting to each respective regulatory agency.
  • Ensure the plant is compliant with EHS regulations including OSHA/TOSHA, EPA and state and local requirements.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes, interpret legal requirements and develop compliance plans to meet these obligations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum requirements
  • B.S. Degree in Occupational Safety, Systems Safety, Environmental Engineering from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience. Five to ten years related experience and/or training or some combination of education and experience. Manufacturing or chemical industry experience desirable.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret applicable product bulletins, material safety data, regulatory texts, various guides and procedures, scientific and technical journals and documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, managers, contractors, customers, regulatory agencies or others.
  • Ability to use computer word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, publishing and graphics programs and familiarity with internet safety, health and environmental websites.
  • English language mandatory, bilingual in Spanish is extremely desirable.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and to calculate figures and amounts such as emission amounts, fees, penalties, taxes, dimensions, quantities, volume, etc.
  • Must be certified in regulatory requirements for packaging and shipping hazardous materials by air, sea or ground.
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) designation desirable.
