Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Two years of experience in building maintenance or construction to include one year in a supervisory capacity are required. Must possess a Certificate of Competency as a Master Plumber issued by the Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board. Persons with Certificate of Competency issued by reciprocity with Miami-Dade County will be eligible. Certificate of Competency must be in good standing with Miami-Dade County Contractor Licensing and Enforcement Section and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation with no pending complaints.

The DTPW Facilities Superintendent (Plumbing) is responsible for maintaining up-to-date licenses and certifications necessary to obtain plumbing permits. This role includes reviewing and approving plumbing plans, schematics, and requisitions for equipment and supplies, as well as managing other plumbing-related duties for the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW). The Superintendent supports Facilities Maintenance personnel with scheduling, assigning, and developing work tasks to ensure compliance with codes and safety standards. This work includes identifying plumbing hazards and ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by staff. Additionally, the Superintendent prepares cost estimates for current and upcoming plumbing projects, providing regular updates, progress reports, and completion timelines. The role involves assisting in the development and upkeep of plumbing training programs, overseeing the work of contractors, maintenance staff, and coordinating with the professional engineering team for project design and scheduling as needed.
