Job Summary

Under the direction of the Grounds Manager, operate medium and heavy grounds maintenance equipment used in mowing and trimming grass, moving dirt, loading and transporting materials and equipment and cleaning of District facilities.

Job Description / Essential Elements:

GROUNDS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Grounds Manager, operate medium and heavy grounds maintenance equipment used in mowing and trimming grass, moving dirt, loading and transporting materials and equipment and cleaning of District facilities.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Perform daily check and maintenance of equipment being used. E

Operate tractor with blades or disks and other grounds equipment in weeding, dragging, leveling and harrowing grounds. E

Operate tractor with gang mower attachments; operate skip loader in grading and moving dirt and rocks and in loading trucks; repair mowing equipment; perform other groundskeeping or general maintenance duties. E

Re_seed large areas of turf utilizing grounds equipment. E

Operate power sweeper. E

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Operation and maintenance of grounds power equipment.

Methods, supplies and tools used in landscape maintenance.

Safety regulations.

ABILITY TO:

Operate and service power equipment.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Work cooperatively with others.

Meet schedules and time lines.

Follow safe work practices.

Perform the essential functions of the job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to some high school and one year of experience in grounds maintenance work involving the use of light construction or grounds maintenance equipment.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

ENVIRONMENT:

Outdoor environment.

Regular exposure to fumes, dust, odors and pollen.

Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions.

Driving a vehicle to conduct work.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Sitting and operating a tractor for extended periods of time.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate groundskeeping tools and equipment.

Walking and standing for extended periods of time.

Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects, normally not exceeding sixty (60) pounds.

Heavy physical labor.

Seeing to perform groundskeeping work, read materials and drive a vehicle.

Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.

HAZARDS:

Working around and with machinery having moving parts.
