ERM is seeking a Principal Technical Consultant, Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our engineering design and construction management teams. In this role, you will provide design and project leadership for geotechnical and civil design and construction projects. Task Management or Project Management roles are available based on level of experience, technical competency, client development skills and willingness to manage direct reports.
These services are provided for our clients locally, nationally and globally. This position provides an opportunity for the candidate to participate in challenging projects across multiple industry sectors, including power and diversified energy (renewables and fossil fuel), chemical, manufacturing and others.
As a Principal Technical Consultant, Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide leadership, develop client relationships, and mentor Junior Engineers to accelerate the growth of ERM's business and client base. You will also network with ERM's global engineering technical team and technology experts to share best practices across the industry. Responsibilities
- Perform geotechnical design and analysis including for bearing capacity, slope stability, shallow and deep foundations, and retaining walls. Apply geotechnical principles to environmental remediation challenges, including management of sludges, impoundment capping and similar geoenvironmental applications.
- Manage subconsultants including but not limited to surveyors, utility location services, geotechnical drilling companies and soil laboratories.
- Work efficiently in a remote/hybrid setting and provide dependable communication of schedule, work products and tasks for yourself and your teams.
- Work collaboratively within ERM teams to provide industry-leading service to a portfolio of clients and amongst diverse business sectors.
- Coordinate and schedule geotechnical or similar field efforts.
- Support the project manager and other team members through engagement in project meetings, delegating, mentoring and overseeing the work of more junior staff, and for delivery of high-quality work products. Engage in multiple projects concurrently; projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse.
- Manage tasks for projects (single or multi-site locations) on time and on budget meeting scope and deliverable requirements for critical issues analyses, geotechnical reports, calculation packages, design drawings and other deliverables as required.
- Manage health, safety, and risk aspects of a project in compliance with ERM's world class Health and Safety Program.
- On a project-specific basis, act as a client point of contact, and lead the engineering/permitting team approach and delivery to the client.
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies and project proposals to support client decision making and project development.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards and regulations, including building codes and industry best practices.
- Work with other ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients and establish new client relationships that result in significant net revenue growth.
- Support business development efforts by contributing technical expertise to client presentations, proposals and marketing materials.
- Engage with key regulatory agencies, including local, state and federal officials for permitting.
Qualifications
- Proficiency with geotechnical design and analysis software tools, including slope stability, shallow and deep foundations, and retaining walls.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering or related engineering field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in place or eligible.
- 5 - 15 years of progressively more complex design experience, including consulting for private-sector clients. Consideration will also be made for candidates with strong field experience, including geotechnical exploration and construction inspection/oversight in earlier parts of their career.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D including grading, profiles, and integrating survey data while working closely with our AutoCAD Designers on management and production of design drawings.
- Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and "people" skills.
- Well experienced preparing technical specifications and drawing sets.
- Strong computer skills and proficient with productivity software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise, understandable and accurate technical documents.
- Ardent attention to detail particularly regarding performing quality assurance and quality control reviews of junior staff deliverables.
- Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a project team.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, which includes being comfortable and effective at communicating complex technical knowledge and concepts to other staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
For the Principal Technical Consultant, Senior Geotechnical Engineer position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $120,963 - $139,115 (USD). An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee's fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
