POSITION SUMMARY:

Under supervision and direction from Painter II or Lead: Prep, sandblast, and apply protective and/or decorative paint finishes to prepared surfaces on a variety of products to meet specifications. Formulate, test, mix and apply liquid coatings to meet specifications.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

• Follows all policies and guidelines regarding workplace safety and product quality.
• Preparation of surfaces for painting: includes sanding, cleaning off contaminants, and taping areas not to be painted.
• Reads and understands paint specifications and product data sheets for a variety of paint manufacturers.
• Selects and properly mixes paint for project according to specifications.
• Keeps work area, paint equipment, and tools clean, orderly and in good working condition. Contributes to division results and performance.
• Take care of internal and external customer needs and expectations.

FORMAL EDUCATION-Required: High School Diploma or GED.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE-Required:

• Must be familiar with conventional and painting techniques specific to manufacturing needs.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, charts and schematics.
• Must be dependable and work effectively under pressure, often independently.
• Must be able to pass a yearly pulmonary function test.
• Preferred: Experience in a manufacturing job shop environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
• Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
• Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
• Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
• Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
• May work indoors and outdoors as needed.
• Exposure to heat up to 120 degrees and cold to 0 degrees.
• May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.
• May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.
• Work surfaces may include concrete.
• Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
