Due to MSG's continued growth, a new opening is available for a Business Development Manager to assist with our projects in the Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania regional areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Business Development Manager (BDM) is an experienced engineering professional who has cultivated a strong network of clients, agencies, municipalities, and industry peers. Through years of expertise and relationship-building, you would have earned a high degree of trust and credibility within the civil engineering sector.

This role emphasizes networking, client communication, proposal development, and business growth. At the peak of their career, the BDM plays a crucial role in:

  • Engaging within their network to stay ahead of market trends and industry shifts.
  • Identifying and pursuing key project opportunities.
  • Monitoring client satisfaction and proactively work towards strengthening and broadening client relationships
  • Maintaining proactive and effective communication with clients.
  • Providing guidance, team building, and leadership support to the organization to achieve specific business development goals and sustain long-term growth, profitability, and competitive advantage.
  • Making decisions on the strategic value of opportunities, projects, partners, and clients within PA.
  • Reviewing and approving Go/No-Go decisions.
  • Identifying, authorizing, and implementing pursuits having strategic value to achieve targeted revenue and additional strategic growth, profitability, and/or differentiation goals.
  • Work with others in the preparation of local grants.
  • Maintaining client list and current pursuits.
  • Developing and implementing client action plans.
  • Facilitating business growth through strategic client interaction.
  • Collaborating with project managers to develop proposals and coordinate efforts with clients and subconsultants.
  • Demonstrating well-developed interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication.
  • Leading with a participative management style, fostering a team-oriented approach.
  • Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the BDM works alongside company management to define overall strategic direction and develop successful strategies to win work in Pennsylvania. They are responsible for independently executing this vision while providing regular updates to management on progress.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key clients, municipalities, and industry stakeholders
  • Identify and pursue land development and municipal engineering projects in target markets.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure proposal success and project execution.
  • Conduct market research and analyze trends to refine business development strategies.
  • Represent the company in networking events, industry conferences, and other marketing or business development events.
  • Provide guidance on strategic direction while independently executing initiatives
  • Report progress, performance, and key business outcomes to company leadership
  • Participates in or leads essential QA/QC reviews for all projects for their department

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or comparable discipline from a four-year college or university

15 - 20 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven history of developing and winning business in PA.
