Role
We are seeking a Process Superintendent to join our Lithium Carbonate Process Plant team. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and effective commissioning, start-up, and steady-state operation of the processing facility. You will lead operations personnel, ensure adherence to safety and quality standards, and drive performance through continuous improvement and effective training programs.
This position will be based at our Winnemucca, NV business office during construction and transition to the Thacker Pass Project site during commissioning and operations. The role reports to the Lithium Carbonate Plant Manager. Travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Foster trusting relationships with all workgroups and promote a culture that aligns with our Purpose, Vision, and Values
- Supervise and motivate the Lithium Carbonate Process Shift Supervisors and relevant process contractor(s), conduct performance evaluations, and address any personnel issues
- Provide technical support to operation groups to maintain production consistency
- Address operational issues, troubleshoot equipment problems, and implement corrective actions
- Ensure production plans and budgets are developed and executed to meet goals
- Review monthly cost and production performance versus budget with an understanding of variances
- Monitor and track processing and performance indicators including environmental, health and safety (EHS), cost, quality, and production
- Develop, validate, and approve procedures that follow the Thacker Pass process to safely execute all plant operations.
- Coordinate planned and unplanned production activities and requests with fixed maintenance, mobile maintenance, electrical, mining, crushing and processing groups
- Prepare and present reports on production, quality, safety, and other relevant metrics
- Lead the development of Knowledge, Skills and Assessment (KSA) programs and training materials for process staff
- Ensure sufficient trained personnel are in place to meet commissioning, start-up, and production targets
- Develop and manage the Process Progression Plan to support fair and consistent staff development
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure operational consistency and maximize throughput and recovery
- Support the hiring and onboarding of operations personnel
- Identify, evaluate, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste
- Review metallurgical performance and recommend best operating practices
- Maintain compliance with relevant safety and environmental regulations
- Develop and track KPIs and performance goals for direct reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of progressive supervisory experience in mineral or chemical processing operations
OR -
Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience with a degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, or related Engineering field
- Experience with chemical and/or metallurgical process operations
- Proven ability to develop and implement new training programs, procedures, and systems, especially in greenfield or start-up environments
- Proven experience leading operations staff within a multi-discipline operating, engineering, and procurement framework
- Manage, motivate, and influence internal and external stakeholders
- Effective verbal, written, and negotiation skills with the ability to motivate teams
- Ability to multi-task and coordinate several projects in parallel while prioritizing and pursuing critical-path tasks on an accelerating schedule
- Ability to critically challenge assumptions, "think outside the box", and deliver solutions
- Be a self-starter: highly motivated, able to work independently, with high energy
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Teams, etc.)
