Line Bore Technician - Heavy Equipment Repair

Location: Mechanicsburg, PA - Travel to customer sites required

Job Type: Full-time Monday - Friday with overtime opportunities.

As our company grows, we are looking for a skilled and experienced Line Bore Technician to join our field team.

Job Summary:

As a Line Bore Technician, you will perform on-site machining of worn or damaged bores on heavy equipment using portable line boring equipment. The ideal candidate has experience in heavy equipment repair, portable machining, precision measuring, and welding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate portable line boring equipment to make repairs or improvements to various types of machinery in the field.
  • Accurately measure and align bores to OEM specifications
  • Perform weld build-up and machining to restore worn bores
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, and calipers
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
  • Perform basic facing, drilling, and tapping as required
  • Maintain, transport, and care for portable line boring equipment
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and supervisors about work progress and recommendations
  • Ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to a high-quality standard
  • Document work performed and complete job reports

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in line boring (preferred), field machining, or heavy equipment repair
  • Proficiency with portable line boring machines (e.g., Climax)
  • Strong welding skills (MIG, stick; TIG is a plus)
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Willingness to travel to job sites, sometimes on short notice and possibly overnight stays.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in various field environments
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and sometimes at various heights

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in heavy equipment field service
  • Certification in welding or machining (not required but a plus)
  • Ability to diagnose and repair heavy equipment is also a plus
  • OSHA and/or MSHA certified
