At Brownstone Door Co., we craft custom wood doors for historic properties across New York City. Our work honors traditional methods, with each piece built to stand the test of time. We are seeking a Fabricator who shares our dedication to precision, craftsmanship, and durability.
What Youll Do:
- Fabricate custom exterior doors using traditional joinery techniques
- Follow detailed shop drawings and specifications to fabricate doors, door frames, trim, etc.
- Fit and install hardware, including locks and other components
- Assist with sanding and prepping doors for finishing as required to meet deadlines.
- Maintain cleanliness and order of the shop through daily clean-up and work clean habits.
- Communicate daily with the team about project deadlines and requirements, and bring up any issues
- Transport doors from the fabrication area into the finishing room. You must be able to lift 50+ lbs.
- Assist with installations as required. Site work/carpentry/installation experience is a plus.
Qualifications:
- Aptitude for Traditional Joinery and Details:
We are looking for someone who has 3-5 years of experience working in a shop or fabricating with wood. You dont need to know our exact process on day one we will train you but you must have the aptitude to grasp how pieces go together, understand why traditional joinery works the way it does, and follow through on a process with precision.
Please note: This is not an apprenticeship position.
- Mechanical Aptitude:You must be able to install hardware and locks properly, understanding how they function and ensuring they operate as intended.
- Precision: You must be able to make precise cuts, move with precision, and think with precision - which means thinking through processes, working methodically, and executing tasks with care and accuracy.
- Experience: Ideally, high-end millwork and carpentry focused on traditional joinery.
- Commitment: We are looking for someone interested in joining us for the long termsomeone who wants to grow as a traditional door maker.
Schedule:
This position begins as part-time for training purposes:
- Monday through Thursday, 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
As you gain proficiency in our fabrication process, you will progressively move toward full-time hours:
- First expanding to 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- With the goal of reaching full-time (Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) within approximately 60 to 90 days, depending on your progress
What we offer:
- Pay is $28-$30/hr depending on the skill set and aptitude.
- Because we value work/life balance, our employees work Monday - Thursday, 8 am-6 pm (after a trial/training period), and enjoy a 3 day weekend every week!
- We also understand that spending time with family is important, so we have an annual holiday shutdown from Christmas to New Years Day.
- We offer 6 paid holidays a year, accrual of 5 PTO days and 5 sick days, paid transit benefits, 401K with a 6% company match after 3 months
