Planning Supervisor (10115, Grade 32)

We are seeking a motivated, creative Planning Supervisor with outstanding analytical and critical thinking capabilities, design experience, and a consistent record of providing leadership and negotiating successfully for the highest quality design and development for our East County Planning Division , Regulatory Review Team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the design process, zoning, planning, community engagement, and development potential. This position requires extensive experience in project leadership and development coordination and excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Leading a team responsible for the regulatory review and analysis of development applications, including sketch plans, preliminary plans, site plans, as well as zoning and conditional use requests.
• Fostering the development of master plans, including leading master plan activities, and the implementation of master plans for targeted planning areas.
• The ability to work directly with residents, developers, planners, architects, engineers, attorneys and public officials to achieve desired outcomes.
• Fieldwork and occasional evening and weekend meetings are required.

1. Bachelors Degree in Planning, Geography, Architecture, Parks and Recreation, Transportation, Urban Design, Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Policy, Economics or any related field.
2. Six (6) years of progressively responsible professional level planning experience that includes supervisory or project leadership and coordination experience.
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together totals ten (10) years.
4. Valid drivers license (depending on area of assignment) in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Drivers license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employees ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
