Kforce has an enterprise client that is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II in Redmond, WA.
Summary:This role sits at the intersection of hardware development, manufacturing, and test, with a strong focus on driving yield improvements, resolving test fallout, and enabling efficient ramp-up of satellite production. You will lead root cause analysis on complex hardware failures and deliver high-impact solutions that drive quality, cost, and throughput improvements. You will be part of the Product Engineering (PE) team responsible for data collection, processing and diagnosing test failures, driving root cause resolution, and collaborating with Test, Design, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering to implement sustainable improvements that accelerate production and ensure flight reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed failure analysis of test fallout from thermal vacuum (TVAC), vibration, Accelerated Screening, and functional tests at the subassembly and vehicle level
- Conduct hands-on hardware debug using lab tools (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, etc.) and system schematics
- Support space hardware testing, including tooling design and data analysis
- Analyze hardware test failures and lead root cause investigations across diverse subsystems
- Drive root cause identification and corrective actions for recurring issues impacting yield and throughput
- Create scalable debug processes and documentation to support rapid production ramp-up
- Influence process improvements and implement systemic solutions for test and assembly non-conformances
- Own and execute debug plans to support production teams in reducing non-conformance resolutions and closures
- Analyze failure pareto before and after engineering changes to evaluate effectiveness and uncover new failure interactions
- Develop scalable processes and documentation for debug, triage, and test disposition
- Support pilot debug efforts and scale to broader product lines* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Material Science or other related discipline, or relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience in hardware development, testing, debug engineering, or production/test support
- 3+ years of CAD experience in complex mechanical/electro-mechanical assemblies/machines/systems
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles to optimize production processes and test efficiency
- Experience with designing test cases for functional, performance, and stress testing in hardware systems
- Hands-on experience with system-level hardware bring-up or failure analysis
- Knowledge of data logging techniques and handling large data sets from test campaigns along with proficiency in processing test results including visualizations and analysis, using scripting tools or external data analysis software
- Familiarity with test equipment error logs and troubleshooting hardware and software integration problems
- Proficient in using test and debug tools (oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to dive deep into ambiguous hardware failures
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with design, test, and manufacturing teams
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Engineering or related field
- Expert level capability w/ 3D CAD systems - Siemens NX (4+ years in advanced CAD assemblies)
- Manufacturing and test knowledge (Forming, Machining, Finishing, Tooling, Assembly, Testing)
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, or high-reliability production environments
- Familiarity with thermal, vibration, and environmental testing practices
- Experience with MES/PLM systems and production debug tracking tools
- Ability to analyze large data sets and create actionable insights (e.g., Python, JMP, Tableau)
