Under general supervision, provides journey level semi-skilled duties in the painting and maintenance of City properties and infrastructure; properly cleans and prepares surfaces; paints facilities and removes graffiti; sets up traffic control safety zone prior to painting on or near traffic and/or roadway areas and assists with traffic flagging in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

- Prepares exterior surfaces for cleaning and painting; removes graffiti; cleans and paints surfaces as needed; pressure washes buildings, facilities and infrastructure; sets up traffic control zones at roadway work sites to minimize risk of accidents and enhance safety of work crews; assists with traffic flagging as needed; remains aware of any potential safety hazards.
- Paints a variety of surfaces including but not limited to signs, building interior, parking lots and other infrastructure. May perform maintenance such as stucco, drywall, or other repair using a variety of materials and tools.
- Prepares, patches, paints and applies finishes to interior surfaces to maintain appearance of the facilities, meet City standards, ensure maximum finish life, protect secondary areas, and repair damage.
- Mixes and prepares pre-mixed paints and ingredients to match, blend, harmonize and/or contrast in specified colors and consistencies.
- Erects and moves working structures including ladders and scaffolds.
- Controls work site to ensure that safety rules and regulations are followed; ensures that hazardous materials are cleaned up in a timely manner and controlled according to City policy and procedures.
- Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair; performs routine maintenance on cleaning equipment, sprayers, compressors, hand tools and other equipment.
- Maintains inventory of chemicals, paints and supplies and orders supplies as needed; maintains and updates records and daily logs on work completed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent GED.
AND
Two (2) years of journey level experience in painting.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
A valid California driver's license and safe driving record.
Must obtain a California Traffic Control Flagger card, and complete the City First Aid/CPR training program within six (6) months of hire.
Special Requirements:
Additional specific technical training may be required.
