JOB TITLE: Civil / Structural Senior Designer
ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: Engineering
ACCOUNTABILITY: Group Leader / Lead Engineer
JOB SUMMARY: Performs highly complex drafting/layout tasks exhibiting superior technical aptitude. Performs highly complex checking, as well as substantial drafting supervision. Frequently an expert in a specialized area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under minimal direction, applies standard theoretical and practical knowledge in a particular functional area to develop the more difficult designs involving original conceptions and modifications of standards. Examines and compares engineering drawings with original sketches and specifications to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Evaluates effects of changes on form, function, and positional relationships of total design. Recommends practicality and suitability of design, materials, and other criteria. Regularly consults with Engineers to resolve problems. Performs checking on assignments with high levels of complexity. Performs drafting supervision; plans and coordinates large and complex drafting projects.
SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Typically, fifteen (15) years of work experience in drafting and design. Requires an
associate degree from a trade school or college. Experience with at least one Autocad,
advanced steel and revit a plus .
INTER-RELATIONSHIPS
Extensive guidance and communication throughout the company in area of expertise. Frequent interaction with clients and vendors.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Inside office work with periodic site visits/travel. Expected to monitor workload with respect to overtime. Works overtime and/or shift work when required.
NEEDED ATTRIBUTES
A self-starter with independent thinking skills. Persons at this level should be flexible in job assignments, travel, and working schedules. An understanding of advanced technical concepts within discipline should be present.
