Parks/Babcock State Park Under the general supervision of the superintendent, assistant superintendent, and/or building maintenance supervisor, the employee in this classification constructs, maintains, alters, and repairs buildings or fabricates and repairs a variety of wooden articles and equipment. The employee will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work. This work will include but not be limited to rough and fine carpentry; plumbing; electrical; concrete and masonry; window cleaning; trash pickup; landscaping and groundskeeping; operating and maintaining boilers; snow removal; housekeeping and janitorial work; repair water lines; floor care and maintenance including carpet shampooing and waxing; wash vehicles; vehicle maintenance; deliver cots and cribs to park facilities; repairs toilets and sewer systems; repairs sewer lines; moves furniture; loads and unloads supplies; move and replace appliances; inventories supplies; repairs phone system; repairs on HVAC units; repairs kitchen and food service equipment; electronic repairs; maintains fire alarm and suppression systems; small engine repair; maintains safe workplace; painting; operates vehicles; operates heavy equipment and mowing equipment; and operates various tools and power equipment. The employee will work with park guests to promptly resolve their maintenance requests in a manner that reflects a positive image for Babcock State Park. The employee will keep all documentation and records as required by supervisors. The employee will be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and night shifts. The employee must be available for on-call work and will be responsible for working throughout all Babcock State Park facilities. The employee must be able to lift and move heavy objects and will be required to work on ladders and at rooftop heights. The employee will wear an assigned uniform. The employee must know about various woods and materials, standard practices and methods of the carpentry trade, tools and materials used in repairing and constructing wooden articles, and must have skill in the use of carpenters hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machines. The employee must have the ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, or sketches and to make accurate arithmetic calculations and measurements. The employee performs related work as needed by supervisors. A valid West Virginia drivers license is required. Regular attendance is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent.

Substitution: Additional experience as stated below may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
Experience: Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience or self-employment in the area of assignment. Substitution: Completion of related training from a vocational school or an approved apprenticeship program may substitute through an established formula on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: The employee must possess physical strength sufficient to perform strenuous tasks for considerable periods of time and to perform carpenter work from ladders or scaffolding.
