Health & Safety Manager

Manages the development and administration of programs to ensure compliance with environmental, occupational health and safety regulations. Identifies and appraises risk conditions which could produce occupational injuries or illnesses. Evaluates potential extent of injuries resulting from accidents and classifies particular workstations. Compiles, analyzes and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents. Investigates occupational accidents, analyses their causes to prevent them. Co-operates with employees' council or labor union in the field of occupational health and safety. Ensures training for employees entering work areas of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, procedures, and policies in compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across the facility to identify hazards and drive corrective actions
  • Lead and investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents, ensuring proper root cause analysis and follow-up
  • Coordinate safety training and toolbox talks for employees and supervisors on topics such as PPE, lockout/tagout, confined space, machine guarding, and hazard communication
  • Maintain safety records, incident logs, and required regulatory documentation
  • Partner with leadership and frontline supervisors to improve workplace safety awareness and accountability
  • Monitor changes in safety regulations and update internal policies accordingly
  • Oversee compliance with environmental, health, and safety reporting and recordkeeping
  • Serve as the point of contact during safety inspections or audits by regulatory agencies
  • Support workers' compensation claims management and return-to-work coordination
  • Participate in safety committees and lead continuous improvement initiatives related to employee safety and plant operations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of health and safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (steel industry preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, ANSI, NFPA, and other safety regulations
  • Experience conducting training and leading incident investigations
  • Certification in safety (e.g., CSP, CHST, or equivalent) is preferred
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management systems

Work Environment

  • Primarily based in a manufacturing facility with regular exposure to heavy machinery, elevated noise levels, and varying temperatures
  • Must be able to walk production floors, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
  • May require flexible hours and availability in the event of emergencies or incidents
