Drywall Taper/Finisher Apprentice

The union will have a recruitment open for one of their apprentice programs in late August: Drywall Tapers/ Finishers. As a registered apprentice program they will hold recruitments in person. The Drywall Tapers will be 500 Applications or 10 business days from the date they will register the recruitment. Applications can be picked up at 45-15 36th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101.

Work is in all 5 boroughs, Long Island, and Westchester. Training is held one day every other week (twice a month) at the Queens training center. The ret of the weeks apprentices are working at one of our signatory contractors earning wages and benefits. The rate of pay is $20.50 - $21 per hour for the 1st year with additional benefits package. Apprentices will earn wages and benefits while training and every year as long as they maintain their work and school hours, and rules and regulations of program. They move up a level which comes with wage and benefit increases. This is 4 year program. At the end of the 4 years they graduate and reach journeywoker level pay and benefits.

Drywall Taper / Finishers: The Work consists of preparing panels for painting by taping and finishing joints and imperfections, skim coating and applying level 1 through 5 finishes according to specs. Affixing corner beads, fire stop, sanding, prep, stilts, and spray application of compound.
