Job Summary
The Wastewater Operator plays a crucial role in the management and operation of wastewater treatment facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring that all wastewater treatment processes are conducted efficiently and in compliance with environmental regulations. The ideal Candidate will have a strong understanding of wastewater treatment systems, possess basic mathematical skills, and be proficient in operating heavy equipment.
Pay
- Pay will be based on experience and licenses/certifications held. Experienced hires will be considered at a starting salary higher than the posted salary for this position. Candidates offered the position will have their offer of hire and pay determined based on work experience, direct experience in Waster/Wastewater, and references obtained.
Duties
- Performs general maintenance of equipment, including, but not limited to, oiling and adjusting power-driven water pumps and other equipment;
- Makes repairs to motors, valves, pumps, and other plant equipment;
- Performs minor electrical installation, maintenance, and repair;
- Maintains logs of all pertinent operational events and chemicals used, and records readings from meters and instruments.
- Checks controls, switches, pumps, motors, and other equipment as the director;
- Regulates valves and observes flow dials;
- Draw samples of water and make routine laboratory tests and analyses.
- Reads gauges and transmits information to the supervisor in charge of records as directed;
- Starts and stops the treatment process machinery'
- Removes grease deposits, debris, and sand from wet wells, drains, and waterways;
- Lubricates and points on a schedule as needed;
- Takes readings and learns to perform laboratory tasks on samples of wastewater and water at all levels of treatment;
- Attends scheduled training courses and pursues independent study of water and wastewater operations;
- Cleans, hauls, loads, and provides labor services as required; Assists in the operation of water and wastewater plant facilities and pumping station equipment; Operates and maintains wastewater treatment equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor and control processes using logic controllers to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collect and analyze data related to water quality and treatment processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including plumbing tasks, to ensure operational efficiency.
- Operate tankers for the transportation of wastewater as needed.
- Assist in building and upgrading facility infrastructure to enhance treatment capabilities.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and implement effectively .
Qualifications
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED), supplemented by technical and college courses in chemistry or plant operations, and considerable experience as a plant operator.
- A Class IV Virginia State Wastewater Treatment Operator's License. Experience in wastewater treatment or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, the Candidate must be able to obtain a Class III Wastewater License and a Class V or higher Water License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia within 24 months of the start date.
- Class B Commercial Drivers:ocemse (CDL) desirable issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia or able to obtain within a reasonable timeline.
- Strong basic math skills for data analysis and process calculations.
- Proficiency in heavy equipment operation relevant to wastewater management.
- Prefer candidates who can perform tasks as required for system maintenance and upkeep.
- Excellent data collection skills for accurate reporting and compliance documentation.
- A commitment to safety practices and environmental regulations within the wastewater industry.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs repetitively throughout the daily work shift.
This position is essential for maintaining the health of our community's water systems, ensuring that all operations align with environmental standards while promoting sustainable practices in wastewater management.

Pay: Starting Pay without experience $17.00 per hour and up for qualified & experienced candidates
Expected hours: 40 50 per week

- 7 am to 3:30 pm (8 hour shift, 30 min lunch)
