This position administers provisions of the State Building Code by providing review prior to permitting on documents submitted for proposed new construction, additions and alterations to buildings listed in Minnesota Statute 326B as within the jurisdiction of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, Construction Codes and Licensing Division (DLI/CCLD). The code review entails determining if the proposed work is in substantial conformance with the Minnesota State Building Code. The position provides technical assistance to building officials, building inspectors, design professionals and professional organizations.

**Minimum Qualifications**

Three years experience in performing plan review work to assure compliance with the Minnesota State Building Code, Minnesota Rule 1305 or similar code based on national building codes and standards, **OR**

Three years' experience in designing buildings to assure compliance with the Minnesota State Building Code, Minnesota Rule 1305 or similar code based on national building codes and standards, **OR**

Three years experience working as a building inspector, inspecting commercial projects under the direct supervision of a Minnesota Certified Building Official, **OR**

Certification as a Minnesota Building Official.

Knowledge of Minnesota State Building Code and all related chapters sufficient to enable the representative to examine architectural/engineering plans.

Knowledge of basic principles of building construction; including structural, electrical, plumbing and heating systems, building material properties; principles of engineering.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally sufficient to describe technical building code requirements, using appropriate industry language and the ability to clearly explain technical information.

Ability to read plans and specifications sufficient to identify code inadequacies and analyze and respond to specific code application inquiries on the telephone and in writing.

Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or common experiences.

Basic Computer Skills: Proficiency in using common software applications like Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, and internet browsers.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Code experience specific to the construction and renovation of hospitals, nursing homes, and K-12 schools.

Two or more years of commercial building plan review experience.

Experience with ProjectDox plan review software.

Thorough knowledge of the safety standards, rules and regulations of the Department.

Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).

**Additional Requirements**
