Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
DOTD Bridge Inspection is regarded as one of he most important positions in the Department. It is directly linked to the safety of the traveling public and to Federal Funding that supports many DOTD projects. The incumbent must uphold the values of safety, professionalism, and honesty in order to carry out the daily requirements of this position.
DOTD Bridge Inspectors are responsible for conducting bridge inventories and inspections in accordance with the 23 USC, Part 650, Subpart C (The National Bridge Inspection Standards, NBIS). The LA DOTD District Offices are responsible for ensuring that the policies and procedures for the inventory and inspection of the bridges in Louisiana are adhered to.
55%: Performs "complex/specialized duties" such as: Prepares the appropriate forms and reports regarding each bridge inspected and incorporates these into files on each bridge to include comprehensive measurements, photographs, sketches and documentation of bridge deficiencies and conditions Serves as an agency representative in meetings with local, state and federal government officials. Prepares written reports or makes oral presentations to outside entities. Makes technical sketches and photographs of damage to bridge structures and may recommend necessary repairs. Assist in coordinating and scheduling work for bridge maintenance crews. Transmits reports to bridge owners utilizing the latest software (Inspect X). Reviews deficiencies and conditions of off-system bridges with bridge owners. These duties are performed under the authority of the District Bridge Engineer (Engineer 7), who has overall responsibility for the bridge inspection program in Louisiana.
40%: Conducts in-depth inspections of new and existing on-system and off-system bridges in an assigned area. Inspects superstructures, substructures, and embankments of bridges to determine the extent of deterioration and rate of each member of the structure in accordance with the latest established FHWA standards. Performs inspections of all District 04 guardrail systems on all state highways in accordance the the latest established standards. Reviews and prepares written reports for the Bridge Inspection Engineer (Engineer 6) to document findings and to recommend corrective actions.
5%: Works on assorted job assignments on a daily basis as directed by the immediate supervisor or engineer. Employee may be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Bridge Inspector 1, 2, 3, or 4.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Compensation:
Bridge Inspector 1- Starting salary is $14.98/hourly with an additional $3.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Bridge Inspector 2- Starting salary is $17.15/hourly with an additional $3.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Bridge Inspector 3- Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Bridge Inspector 4- Starting salary is $22.47/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
