### **Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator - Earthmoving**

### **Job Summary:**
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery including but not limited to bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, loaders, scrapers, and compactors to perform earthmoving activities. This position supports site development by clearing, grading, excavating, backfilling, and compacting soils to specifications and within project timelines.

### **Key Responsibilities:**
- Operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to manufacturer instructions and jobsite protocols.
- Perform earthmoving tasks such as excavation, trenching, grading, embankment construction, and backfilling.
- Read and interpret project plans, grade stakes, and GPS/laser control systems to maintain desired elevations and alignments.
- Inspect and maintain equipment daily; report defects or necessary repairs to maintenance personnel.
- Monitor soil conditions and moisture content and adjust operations to achieve proper compaction and slope tolerances.
- Coordinate with ground personnel and other operators to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient workflow.
- Load and move materials as required using loaders, scrapers, or haul trucks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and environmental regulations.
- Assist with other general labor tasks as required to support project completion.

### **Qualifications:**
**Required:**
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience operating heavy earthmoving equipment.
- Ability to operate one or more of the following: excavator, bulldozer, motor grader, articulated dump truck, front-end loader, scraper, and roller.
- Knowledge of jobsite safety practices and trenching/shoring regulations.
- Ability to read grade stakes, site plans, and work with GPS or laser grading systems.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
**Preferred:**
- NCCER or other heavy equipment certification.
- OSHA 10/30-hour training.
- Familiarity with CAT, Komatsu, or John Deere equipment systems.

### **Physical Requirements:**
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in equipment cabs.
- Manual dexterity and good vision for equipment operation.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, working outdoors in varying weather, and walking over uneven terrain.

### **Work Environment:**
- Outdoor construction sites with potential exposure to dust, noise, heat, and cold.
- Use of PPE (hard hats, vests, gloves, steel-toe boots, etc.) is mandatory.
- May require extended hours or weekend work depending on project schedule.
