responsibilities:
- Lead the design and preparation of plans and specifications for potable water capital improvment projects, including site, treatment, storage and distribution infrastructure
- Manage a hybrid workload split evenly between hands-on technical design and mentoring/supervising a team of 5-6 staff (CAD technician and assistant engineers)
- Collaborate closely with the Capital Program Management team to support $180M+ in annual project execution
- Oversee design elements for plant sites, including booster pump stations, piping systems, and related infrastructure
- Provide leadership in reviewing, approving, and performing quality control on internal and consultant-produced design work
- Coordinate and support cross-functional teams including operations, customer service, water quality, and asset management
- Ensure design compliance with the State Water Resources Control Board and Division of Drinking Water regulations; manage DDW Waivers for non-standard crossings
- Manage consultants and external resources as needed; participate in proposal (RFP) development and review
- Review engineering submittals and respond to field changes during construction
- Support development of Capital Improvement Programs through reports, cost estimates, hydraulic evaluations, and other planning documentation
- Represent the company in public meetings and professional settings related to engineering projects
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers, fostering technical development and a collaborative team environment
- Utilize Civil 3D for design work; AutoCAD support primarily handled by CAD technicians
- Paticipate in weekly design teeam syncs and actively communicate project progress, issues, and needs to internal stake holders
