Heavy Equipment Operator Job Description Operate various types of power construction equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, compactors, articulated dump trucks, and front-end loaders. Perform tasks such as excavating, moving, and grading earth, primarily for projects involving environmental contamination. Utilize both CAT and other controls, maintain equipment, and perform minor repairs. Responsibilities Learn and follow safety regulations. Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines and other equipment. Adjust hand wheels and depress pedals to control attachments, such as blades and buckets. Start engines and operate machines such as bulldozers and trench excavators. Locate underground services, such as pipes and wires, prior to beginning work. Monitor operations to ensure health and safety standards are met. Align machines and position equipment following hand signals of other workers. Load and move dirt, rocks, and materials using trucks and related equipment. Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades to remove topsoil and level terrain. Coordinate machine actions with other activities, using signals from crew members. Essential Skills Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, including excavators, wheel loaders, and skid steers. High school diploma or GED. 3+ years of experience as an equipment operator. Trained and certified to operate assigned equipment with 4+ years of specific equipment experience. Ability to follow plans and stakes for cut and fill. Capability to sit/operate heavy equipment up to 100% of shift. Willingness to travel to project sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications REAL CA ID or TWIC is advantageous. Experience with water trucks and bulldozers. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Livermore, California. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
