Description
This position leads the undergraduate thesis program, a cornerstone of New College of Florida's senior year graduation requirement. This position oversees the full lifecycle of the thesis process-from initial planning to final defense-by designing program infrastructure, supporting students, and coordinating with faculty. This position ensures that students are equipped with the tools, guidance, and resources necessary to produce rigorous, high-quality research and writing.
Examples of Duties
- Collaborating with department leaders throughout New College to write a Thesis Manual that can be used by all students
- Design and implement a structured thesis program, including timelines, milestones, deliverables, and evaluation rubrics
- Develop and deliver workshops, and instructional resources on research methods, academic writing, time management, and project planning
- Establish and maintain policies and procedures that align with academic standards and institutional expectations
Student Support and Mentorship
- Advise students in selecting and refining thesis topics that are feasible, original, and academically rigorous
- Provide individualized mentorship and regular check-ins to monitor progress, set goals, and troubleshoot challenges
- Guide students through the development of research proposals, literature reviews, methodologies, and writing strategies.
Faculty and Committee Collaboration
- Coordinate with faculty advisors and thesis committees to ensure consistent expectations and effective support for students
- Facilitate productive communication among students, advisors, and committee members throughout the thesis process
