POSITION

SUMMARY:

The Field Engineer provides technical engineering support to

project supervisors and craft workforce to ensure all construction complies

with all appropriate standards, codes and specifications. The Field Engineer

must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have good

communication and client service skills.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrate commitment to an injury-free environment

through own actions and mentoring others

Supports/assists in implementation of Operation Zero

and all Manhattan safety policies

Participate in performing survey layout for

construction control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and

correct installation of materials

Maintain record documents

Material takeoffs for self-perform work

Research of drawing interpretations, problems, and

errors

Verification that all completed work complies with

drawings and specifications

Strong knowledge of the contract specifications and

documents

Verify all survey monuments and markers

Assist in subcontractor coordination

Responsible for conducting

themselves in accordance with our Guiding Principles and exhibiting

attributes matching the Way We Work.

Other duties as assigned

Crew Responsibilities:

Responsible

for accurately establishing and maintaining all physical site dimensions and

controls.

Responsible

for working with independent surveyor to identify all benchmarks, property

lines and property corners that relate to project site.

Responsible

for the accurate layout of the project including building location and

dimensions, site utilities and other physical improvements. While concrete

placing operations are underway, a frequent check should be made of all

formworks for horizontal and vertical alignment.

Responsible

for verifying or providing the layout for all subcontract work.

Responsible

for verifying the accuracy of all plan and shop drawing dimensions.

Responsible

for the proper care, maintenance and protection (including identification) of

all engineering instruments, tools and equipment. The Field Engineer should

make sure each crew has the proper equipment to complete the work. The

Instrument Man should be responsible for the care and maintenance of transits,

theodolites, and levels. Inspections and verifications of optical adjustment

should be scheduled and performed weekly. These should be recorded in a field

book.

Responsible

for ensuring all crews conduct themselves properly, are on time and ready for

work at work time, carry out their assigned duties properly, and fill "less

busy time" with activities such as: cleaning equipment and tools; organizing

storage areas; flagging nails or stakes; studying and updating plans.

Responsible

for work performed by all crews to ensure proper notes are taken, proper layout

techniques are used, and the Instrument Man is informed about the procedures

and scope of work for each task. The Instrument Man should understand the job

thoroughly enough to assume the duties of the Field Engineer in their absence.

The Instrument Man must work together with the Field Engineer to help minimize

any mistakes.

Responsible

for training Rodmen, Chainmen, Instrument Men and Field Engineer Trainees.

(When

assigned) responsible for assisting the Superintendent in the supervision of

the work.

Responsible

for ensuring that safe working conditions exist related to field engineering

activities. Always tie-off with safety lines when working outside safety rails

or cables or when using ladders. Crews must be very conscious of any work

overhead. Exercise extreme caution when working around slab openings or have

been working underneath. Make sure barricades cover active opening work. Report

any unsafe activities or conditions to your supervisor or the Superintendent.

Responsible

for monitoring the actual installation of work to insure accurate placement of

anchor bolts, formwork, concrete, etc.

Responsible

for monitoring the job stock of certain materials and embedded items to insure

availability at the required time of installation.

(When

assigned) responsible for accurate reporting of quantities of work in place.

Responsible

for monitoring all existing utilities to ensure continued operations (avoid

interruption).

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS:

2 Year Degree- Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent.

May substitute required education degree with related experience on a one-to-one

basis

3 years of industry experience

WORKING

CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS:

You must be adaptable to all types of weather conditions and traverse and inspect all areas of a construction job site, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.

Ability to physically stand, bend, sit for long periods, and squat throughout the day.

Ability to repeat the same movements.

Ability to communicate effectively to participate fully in meetings, video conferences, and phone calls.

Ability to compose, send, and reply to emails and written correspondence.

Must be able to lift, pull, or move up to 50 pounds at a time.

Travel may be required occasionally, primarily in the metropolitan area but sometimes domestically (must have a valid Driver's License).

Exposure to characteristic construction site hazards.
