Position Description
The Civil/Structural Engineer is expected to be able to perform routine engineering functions with little supervision. Work is reviewed by a senior level engineer for accomplishment of objectives.
Essential Functions
Assists in the preparation of Site Data Sheet
Assists in the preparation of requisitions for inquiry in support of purchasing Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings, Structural Steel for supports, Pre-fabricated pipe supports, and subcontracts.
Assists in the preparation of proposals for Geotechnical Investigation & Topographic Surveys.
Prepares technical bid evaluations for Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings, Structural Steel for supports, Pre-fabricated pipe supports, and subcontracts in cooperation with Procurement Department.
Prepares civil and structural calculations for the design of various civil/ structural elements pertaining to the project.
Reviews plot plans and facilities for Civil/Structural requirements.
Reviews vendor documents.
Reviews the discipline scope of work to be executed to ensure it matches project specification and/or the proposal documents as appropriate.
Accepts both short and extended term assignments to the site, client's office, etc. as may be requested by the Chief Civil/Structural Engineer.
ADDENDUM: CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
DEPARTMENT FUNCTIONS
Civil/Structural Engineering is a highly specialized group whose function is to provide design-engineering service covering:
Site Data Sheet - Prepare site specific data sheet listing the design loads viz. Dead, Live, Wind & Seismic and the environmental conditions.
Site Grading & Drainage - Develop the optimum grading & surface drainage system based upon existing contours, site constraints, local regulatory requirements & cost.
Calculations - Perform calculations and analysis for the following:
Runoff calculations for sizing culverts and Erosion & Sedimentation Control devices.
Foundation calculations for steel building columns, compressors, pumps, other equipment, pipe anchors & supports, cable tray supports, storage tanks etc.
Structural steel calculations for pipe anchors & supports, access platforms, cable tray supports etc.
Standards Specifications - Responsible for technical content of standards and preparation of specification for the following:
Reinforced Concrete
Structural Steel
Pre-Engineered Steel Building
Geotechnical Investigation
Topographic Surveying
General & Select Fill
Construction Drawings - Approved for construction drawings and schedules:
Grading Plans & Details
Building Architectural Plans and Details
Erosion Control Plan & Details
Typical Details
Foundation Location Plans
Foundation Details
Structural Steel Location Plans
Structural Steel Details
Bar Bending Schedules
Material Take Off

Requirements
Qualifications
Typically 2 - 6 years of experience in engineering.
Knowledge of computer systems in an engineering environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
EIT Certification preferred

Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
Frequent sitting and operating a computer.
