Job Description:
This role will be responsible for managing City stormwater construction activities, including installing or repairing stormwater infrastructure such as pipes, boxes, swales, and canals and managing the jet vactor truck operations program to clean inlets, boxes, and outfall systems.
Examples of Duties:
- Acts as a Construction and Vac Truck Program Manager by developing priorities and processes for internal construction projects and vac truck cleaning work.
- Works with Supervisor to develop priorities and schedules in alignment with the Division priorities, staffing, and budget.
- Coordinates and communicates regarding staff work efforts with impacted residents, property owners, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
- Supervises the work of the crews by visiting the worksites to ensure that the work is being completed safely, accurately and efficiently.
- Provides technical expertise in internal project management and constructability considerations for complex drainage infrastructure construction work and vac truck operations.
- Provides personnel with appropriate mentoring and training to advance in project management, construction tradecraft, and heavy equipment operation and ensures personnel are adequately trained to carry out their duties.
- Ensures compliance with safety policies and conducts monthly safety meeting.
- Plans and schedules seasonal workload for crews and ensures that all work is completed.
- Plans and estimates the materials and hours needed to complete division priorities to meet schedule goals.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of program work.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Ensures that all equipment is properly maintained, clean and ready for use.
- Interprets City policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and materials and equipment to be used.
- Completes time and production records.
- Prepares required reports.
- May operate motor equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and dump trucks.
- Performs activities of workers supervised.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current SC Commercial Driver's License - Class B.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City's needs.
