JOB SUMMARY:
JM Steel is seeking an Estimator/Draftsman/Detailer who will create fabrication drawings based on given specifications and calculations provided by production team; estimate projects costs and quotations; program machinery.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate Degree in Drafting Required; Professional Certification in Mechanical Drafting Preferred
- CAD Software Experience Required; Mechanical Manufacturing Processes Preferred
- Valid Driver's License Required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficient ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications
- Understanding of steel manufacturing and fabrication processes
- Proficient information gathering and monitoring skills to facilitate effective, unbiased decision making and problem solving functions
- Verbal/written communication skills to present information or ideas clearly to personnel at all levels of operations, purchasing, and plant management
- A team mentality with a quality and safety-oriented mindset
- Workable knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Proficient knowledge of operational functions of fabrication machinery
- Dependability to be consistently at work and on time with ability to travel as required
- Close visual acuity, near/far vision, fine manipulation, verbal interaction skills, and multiple limb coordination
- Repetitive sitting, standing, walking, and/or bending capability during normal phase duties
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review/analyze blueprints, specifications, and other documentation presented by operations team and accurately prepare and estimate projects.
- Develop estimates, pricing, proposal formats for submittal to project/operations personnel.
- Track estimated/actual costs to determine project profit margins.
- Communicate with company Purchasing Dept. and vendors to obtain accurate pricing and determine estimated lead times.
- Work directly with sales, engineering, and production to understand size and scope of projects plus timelines and applicable project deadlines.
- Program machines as required.
- Perform any other duties as directed by management personnel to ensure efficient operation of facility.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Majority of work performance is conducted in a steel service center plant using heavy production machinery, material handling and job-specific equipment and tools and a climate-controlled plant/sales office that contains office machinery and equipment. Occasional off-site work performance that may require air or motorized travel with exposure to flight or road hazards and variations in weather conditions.
- Plant safety and machine-specific safety procedures are strictly enforced and compliant with Federal OSHA and/or State regulations.
- Safety training, written procedures, and continual improvement measures are implemented to eliminate or control any physical/environmental hazards that may be present in the work place.
- Employee use of personal protective equipment is enforced for all phases of job performance to prevent bodily injury.
