THE POSITION

Washington County's Land Use & Transportation is now hiring a Building Services Supervisor to join the Planning and Development Services Division!

The Department

The Position

The Building Services Supervisor is the working supervisor of the Building Permit Technician Team in the Building Services Section of the Planning & Development Services Division of the Department of Land Use and Transportation. This Team coordinates the issuance of building permits with the Building Services and Current Planning/Development Review sections and monitors the completion of design, zoning, and land use plan reviews required before permit issuance, and also responds to questions from the public. With the assistance of permitting and workflow software, the incumbent works with their team to issue building permits that are complete, accurate, and meet target service levels. This position collaborates with the Building Official, Development Operations Section Manager, and Planning & Development Services Division Manager to document and evaluate procedures, recommend improvements, manage change, promote outstanding customer service, and implement process improvements. Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced supervisor with strong customer service skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. They will have previous experience working with permitting software and understand the improvements it can bring to permitting processes. They will build productive working relationships within the department, the broader County, and with community members. They will model excellent customer service, build a cohesive team, and promote a healthy work environment. Possession of the International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician Certification is preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, construction management, or closely related field; AND Two (2) years of experience as a lead and/or supervisor in construction or inspection or review, processing, and examination of building or residential plans; OR
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience performing journey level work in inspections or review, processing, and examination of building or residential plans. AND Two (2) years of experience as a lead and/or supervisor in construction or inspection or review, processing, and examination of building or residential plans.
