The Traction Electrification System (TES) Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the day-to-day activities of personnel assigned to the maintenance and operation of electrified rail infrastructure. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe, reliable service by overseeing work on substations, overhead catenary systems (OCS), power feeders, and associated return circuits. The supervisor fosters a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence through training, guidance, and operational oversight. Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency events outside of normal working hours, as needed.

This position is safety sensitive and subject to Valley Metro RPTA's Drug & Alcohol Program. Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow up testing.

Associates degree in electrical repair and Installations or a related field, and four (4) years of journey-level experience in electrical or electronic maintenance, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory or lead capacity. Experience must include work with high-voltage systems or traction power infrastructure. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement. This may include completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and additional directly related experience in high-voltage or traction power systems.

Employment for safety-sensitive positions is contingent on passing a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

Background Investigation :
Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.

Incumbent is required to obtain within 90 days of hire, and maintain a current valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B) with Air Brakes endorsement. Position requires the ability to maintain insurability under Valley Metro Vehicle Insurance Policy. The statements listed below describe the general nature and level of work only. Leads and supervises traction electrification staff, setting clear expectations and ensuring high safety and performance standards.

Oversees inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of substations, overhead catenary systems (OCS), power feeders, and return circuits.

Assigns, prioritizes, and tracks maintenance work using a computerized maintenance management system (MMIS); ensures accurate documentation of work performed.

Promotes and enforces strict adherence to safety protocols related to high-voltage electrified rail systems; ensures staff are properly trained and equipped.

Responds to power-related emergencies and coordinates efforts to restore service and protect infrastructure.

Monitors installation and commissioning of TES equipment; identifies and escalates deficiencies or safety concerns.

Guides technicians in resolving system faults; establishes clear testing and maintenance procedures.

Maintains maintenance records, generates reports, and supports continuous improvement through root cause analysis and corrective action planning.

Participates in hiring efforts, on-site inspections, and cross-department coordination to support team and agency goals.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative, working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing (color & peripheral) and repetitive motions. Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with the assistance of applicable equipment or other employees.

This position requires working non-traditional and/or odd hours, including holidays, and may be called in to work anytime during emergencies.

Incumbent may be subjected to working in high precarious places, working around high voltage electricity, in close quarters. Also subject to noises, risk of electrical shock; fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals and various outdoor weather conditions. A high degree of concentration is needed.
