POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Shop Maintenance Mechanic

FLSA: Non-exempt

POSITION REPORTS TO: Mechanical Shop Superintendent

POSITION PURPOSE: The Shop Maintenance Mechanics primary purpose is to perform routine maintenance and general repairs to tools, machinery, and equipment as well as other tasks assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Keep workplace clean and orderly.
  • Comply with instructions provided by supervisor or designees.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspection of shop machinery, power tools, hand tools, equipment installations, and accessories associated with the foregoing.
  • Keep records of purchase, inspection, service and repairs to shop equipment and machinery.
  • Operate machinery such as but not limited to forklifts, telehandlers, skid-steer loader, backhoe.
  • Maintain inventory or lubricants, spare parts, and supplies as required to keep shop equipment in good condition and available for use.
  • Remove and replace defective parts using lifting equipment such as overhead cranes as required.
  • Fabricate parts using machine and hand tools, welders, cutting torches, plasma cutters, and other metal working equipment.
  • Document work as required.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

  • Able to identify properly and improperly functioning systems and diagnose problems.
  • Carries out proper and efficient repairs in compliance with company policies.
  • Fabricates parts to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Able to identify parts and materials appropriate for application.
  • Anticipates need for materials and makes requisitions in a timely manner.
  • Seeks instruction when needed to complete inspections and repairs properly.
  • Shows up to work on time, properly attired and prepared to work.
  • Enthusiastically takes on responsibility and aids Team Members to accomplish department goals.
  • Works safely and efficiently and maintains a clean and orderly workplace.
  • Complies with instructions from superiors and works independently when required.
  • Complies with all policies outlined in the Employee Handbook or supplemental policy or guideline memos from the President.
  • Works well with others

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of one (1) year as an SRC mechanical department laborer OR other comparable trade experience.
  • Enthusiasm for the company and its mission.
  • Ability to carry out verbal or written instructions.
  • Capable of operating welding machines, oxy/fuel torch rigs, plasma cutters, angle grinders and other metal fabrication tools at or above a foundational level.
  • Familiarity with basic machine tools, such as band saws and manual lathes and milling machines.
  • Proficient with the use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and work from simple mechanical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, and algebraic math.
  • Possession of valid drivers license.
  • Organizational skills and careful attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work at heights on ladders, scaffolds, man lifts or on top of rail mounted equipment.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Positive attitude and personal confidence in management
  • Willingness and desire to learn.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Full-time, minimum forty (40) hours per week. Regular shop hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Shift has regular variations due to changing projects, priorities, and other factors.
  • Work is primarily indoors, though many duties will require occasional outdoor work in all weather conditions at all times of the year.
  • Work requires regular social contact with Team Members, customers, and vendors.
  • Occasional exposure to very hot or very cold temperatures.
  • Frequent exposure in a shop setting to soot, dust, oil, paint, and other potentially hazardous substances.
  • Frequent work in confined spaces.
  • Frequent need for personal protective equipment.
  • Extended periods of walking or standing.
  • Frequent lifting in excess of 50 pounds.
